I would have left SDA'ism year before I did had it not been for this sick tool used by the SDA clergy. They would tell unverifiable conspiracy straw man tales from the pulpit to inspire fear and compliance in the members.

Some of them were.

An angel converting several Middle Eastern Muslim people to SDA'ism.

Jesuit Infiltration.

Bacciochi was a Jesuit.

They are getting ready to pass the Sunday Law, and we have proof this time.
etc.

The SDA church was smart. Without proof there is no way for the gullible member to test the validity of such claims. Making unprovable claims is probably one of the biggest reasons I now call Adventism a cult of the worst sort.

Hearing about the Harold Camping fiasco brought back alot of memories and Yes, I was part of the "something will happen in 1994" crowd via Larry Wilson.

Yes, the urban legends are really effective on those who fear conspiracies. It's a very effective way to entrap people who are taught that "they" are against us, and we have to defeat the evil.

The real gospel dispels these issues...Jesus has defeated evil, and we don't have to do it! We just have to trust Him.

Here are some more urban legends:

--Billy Graham keeps the Sabbath or Billy Graham loves the Desire of Ages.

--Pastors of other denominations know that the 7th day is the Sabbath and some of them even keep it and hide it from their members.

--Catholic priests read EGW and believe she was a prophet (heard this one from David Gates in the last 5 years)

--Everyone is just now coming around to promoting the health principles that EGW advocated 100 years ago. See? She was a prophet.

--All of creation operates on a 7-day cycle and observes a 7th-day rest rhythm.

Desire of Age is the Library of Congress favorite book on the life of Christ.

A director of education in an Asian country upheld EGW writings on Education as a masterpiece of wisdom (can't remember which country... but I heard this)

Often heard cited the reason we can't eat any meat at all now is because it has more disease than it did in Jesus' time. Of course it was never backed up with fact.

Treasurehntr; have you read the article in "Adventist World" called: "Adventists and Muslims: Five Convictions," about some Muslim leader having visions that the SDA church is fine and to work with SDAs? http://www.adventistworld.org/article.php?id=708
The content of his "visions" is SO DIFFERENT from the many testimonies I've read where the Lord has given visions and dreams to Muslims. In the many instances that I've read where the Lord intervened dramatically in the lives of Muslims by the use of dreams, the Muslim saw the Lord, Who told him or her: "Follow Me."

The Muslim leader in "Adventist World" didn't hear any such thing. The article states, quote: "The following day the sheikh and I met to consider what topic should form the basis for the discussions with the larger group. Almost immediately we settled on the Second Coming. We decided to ask each side to prepare short papers on the general topic of Jesus’ return, on the signs of the Second Coming, and on the antichrist. Then came the moment I had been waiting for. “Sir,” I asked, “is it true that you received a vision about Seventh-day Adventists?”

“Not one, but three,” he replied. “All three had the same message: Seventh-day Adventists are the true People of the Book [a term from the Koran, designating followers of Allah who are not Muslims]. Adventists already are God’s people, so do not try to convert them. Instead, work with them.”

I found it really interesting that this sheikh didn't hear Jesus telling him to "follow Me." Muslims reject Jesus as the atonement Whom God provided, so the most important thing by far is for them to accept Jesus - not work with somebody! That showed me right there, that this was false. (Adventists wouldn't recognize this deception, because they aren't taught to accept Jesus as their Savior as the most important doctrine! Rather that, in their minds, seems to be secondary to all their other doctrines, especially the Sabbath.)

[I hope that quote from Adventist World came out looking like a quote okay. I don't know how to do all that fancy indenting with the lines and all that clearly show that something is a quote.]

Mine is that Billy Graham has Ellen White books in her library and will say that the seventh-day Sabbath is the right day to worship before he dies. Are we all sitting at the edge of our seats??!!

Hi Asuprise!

I just got home...ugh

I saw that article and it really creeped me out. There was also one in outlook magazine from Nov 2010 about Islam and SDA making all nice to each other. No they won't compromise the Sabbath but They'll sell Christ down the river.

I can't find the article but got the video.

Asurprise, that article really was a huge insight into where Adventism is going...at least it was in my eyes. It's counter-intuitive to everything we were taught. Funny that EGW didn't see Islam coming...

In Australia some years ago we often heard variations of a story about someone crossing the Nullarbor Plains (Australia's main east/west rd) and pickng up a hitch hiker who tells them Jesus is coming very soon - stay faithful etc. When the person turns to question the hitch hiker they have dissapeared. The implication always being in SDAism favour. I haven't heard this in recent years.

Asurprise, your posting about the Adventist World just confirmed a lot of things for me. The scripture that comes to mind is:
The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness." 2 Thess 2:9-12
You know when I was SDA I applied this to those who didn't receive the sabbath truth. I know now that when Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life."....He really meant it. He really is the TRUTH not the sabbath or the state of the dead. Truth isn't a doctrine....Truth is Jesus. When I saw that revelation I realized the source of all these "stories" that the SDA's love to tell that promote their religion. That creeped me out!!! One because I used to believe and tell those stories too....and of course that meant that I was one of the deceived ones that refused to love the Truth and replaced the Truth with the doctrines of the SDA church. And second, it really creeps me out knowing that the true source of all these manifestations, dreams, etc are nothing else but satan himself. GEEZ!! I can't believe how blind I was!! Thank you Jesus, for Your forgiveness and for not leaving me in the dark but leading me out and into Your kingdom of Light and Glory! I'm in awe of Your love and mercy.
With all this said....my heart truly goes out to those still stuck in the SDA system. I have no idea how to reach out to them cuz before I left the church I was horribly slandered and discredited so they all believe that I'm deceived. How do you reach out to them when they have that perspective about you?

Thegoldenway:"How do you reach out to them when they have that perspective about you?"

SDA's believe that anyone who leaves their version of "truth" is deceived, so it is very hard to reach them with the truth of the Gospel. It is discouraging because we want to see our loved ones come OUT of Adventism just as much as they want to see us brought back in :-( They feel we are lost and we know that it was while believing the errors of Adventism that we were in a lost condition.
The one thing that we CAN do for them is to continue to love them and pray for them that the Holy Spirit will work on their minds and hearts to reach them as was done for us. WE cannot reach them through our words no matter how sincere, but we can continue to pray that in God's timing (not our own) HE will somehow be able to reach into their hearts as He did for us, but knowing it might be through another person, an event, etc that has nothing at all to do with us personally. (just my opinion ) :-)

I wrote to the library of Congress and asked them if they endorsed the Desire of Ages as the best or most requested book on the life of Christ. The e-mails we exchanged are located here.

I'm so glad it was helpful. I'm almost to the point where my real name can be substituted in the e-mails.

I heard so much of this kind of stuff that wasn't true in my church and started checking it out.

Have you seen the stuff about the Waldenses? They weren't Sabbatarians! Without that link, there are serious problems with the stuff being taught in prophecy seminars!

O.E. Davis was impressed to minister to Natives in Guyana. The chief had visions from God, telling him to keep the 7th day Sabbath and that some man with a black book will teach them.

New York Times first said that he was murdered by the natives. SDAs later said that he died of an illness.

Here is another NY Times article saying that O.E. Davis was poisoned by natives because he was against polygamy:

I am glad I found this forum!

I read the Adventist World magazine article on Muslims. They mentioned how a SDA lady decided to stop wearing bold jewelry because she found out that "Muslims don't wear jewelry". So she got rid of her jewelry to witness to them. What rubbish! A LOT of Muslims wear jewelry!!!

SDAs like to push their agenda so badly...

I thought about this subject today.
About the key in the Bible, just WHY would putting a key in the Bible provoke evil spirits? Why Daniel 7? I do wonder...
