I have to share with you all the sermon I just listened to. It's D. A. Carson speaking on the subject of Melchizedek. I know, sounds b-o-r-i-n-g... But not! He discusses the two primary passages Melchizedek is referenced—in Genesis and Hebrews—and also discusses the Psalm where David foretells a king and a priest. Carson shows how Jesus was foreshadowed before the law, during the law (David) and revealed in the NT as the One who signalled the end of the law when He assumed the priesthood, replacing the levitical line. This is an amazing, very clear statement not only of the new covenant but of the fact that God gave shadows of it before it ever came to be, so the NT writers, who KNEW the OT, could explain it using language and symbols the Jews would know.
