God told Noah: "Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything." Genesis 9:3

Then God told Israel: "But I have said to you, 'You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey.' I am the LORD your God, who has separated you from the peoples. You shall therefore separate the clean beast from the unclean, and the unclean bird from the clean. You shall not make yourselves detestable by beast or by bird or by anything with which the ground crawls, which I have set apart for you to hold unclean. You shall be holy to me, for I the LORD am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine."

So the reason for them to avoid the "unclean" meats was because it represented separation from the "unclean Gentiles" round about. When Jesus died, He "tore down" the wall between Jew and Gentile. (Ephesians 2:14,15)

Peter was shown that Gentiles had been "cleansed" in Acts 10, by his vision of the unclean animals in the sheet and then by the Holy Spirit telling him to go with the Gentiles that came to his gate. He told the Gentiles: "God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean." (Acts 10:28)

So eating or not eating "unclean" meats had nothing to do with health.

Luke 16:16 [ESV]

"The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it."

You're telling me, Bskillet! I used to believe it, though.

Romans 8:16: The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children." (So, God testifies with our "breath"??)

Rev. 22:18 " I warn EVERYONE who hears the words of the prophecy of this book; If ANYONE adds ANYTHING to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book."
Maybe 100,000 pages (their claim) doesn't count.
LOL. Sorry.

Good idea, Skeeter. Maybe even an ongoing series, with one short article per scripture passage per issue.

Adventists believe that the written Sinai law applied to all people. The Bible says the law was for the Israelites only. Gentiles did not have the written law. SDAs believe the law was in place before the creation of the world.

quote:

(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) Romans 2:14-15 NIV

for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law. Romans 5:13 NIV

Jeremiah 23:30-32:

"Therefore", declares the Lord, "I am against the prophets who steal from one another words supposedly from Me. Yes, declares the Lord, I am against the prophets who wag their own tongues and yet declare, 'The Lord declares.' Indeed, I am against those who prophesy false dreams," declares the Lord. "They tell them and lead my people astray with their reckless lies, yet I did not send or appoint them. They do not benefit these people in the least," declares the Lord.

" When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him."

I just wanted to make a comment about the verse when Jesus said: "Verily verily i say unto thee, today thou shalt be with me in Paradise.
We all know the Adventists claim that the comma is put in the wrong place. They say that the verse should read as follows: Verily I say unto thee today, thou shalt be with me in Paradise.
However Jesus was never in the habit of saying Verily verily i say unto thee today. He was however recorded many times as saying verily verily i say unto thee.
I am quite certain the translators got the pronunciation in the proper place on that one but it was a good try on there part! LOL
