Both Mormonism and Adventism add works (like any false religion) to the gospel. They're different from each other in that Mormonism is more like Islam than Christianity and Adventism is a fake Christian religion, that on the surface closely resembles Christianity. It's only when a person realizes that Jesus does and did it all, that they realize that Adventism isn't Christian. |

The two religions are like two different kinds of poisons that are very different from each other, but both kill. |

I became Adventist back in 1982. And no they did not teach me or tell me that Jesus is Michael the Archangel. JWs also teach this. But I can tell you this much, that was during the time with Walter Rea (the plagarism of Ellen White) and Desmond Ford (the Investigative Judgment) were in heated battle with the General Conference. Because I can remember that there was literature out of the Adventist church defending their position regarding these issues. Now I have a question, How come Rea and Ford weren't disfellowshiped for what they did? Both of them are still Adventist.Oh, before I go a piece of history. The reason why Adventists sound like they are teaching Mormon ideas is because, there are familial ties to the Mormon church on Ellen White's side. I do my research, too. |

I've read testimonies where when one person dies, the evil spirits will go to another family member. That's why it's important for people to pray asking the Lord to break all spiritual demonic assignments from ancestors/relatives by His blood. (The devil assigns demons to families sometimes - such as someone who opens the door to witchcraft or takes a blood oath/vow such as Masons or Mormons do. Those persons are opening the door for the devil to assign demons to their family.) When Joseph Smith died, the spirits in him must have gone to Ellen White. |

No they are not related. And I so doubt the "spirit transference." because Joseph Smith had other brothers. And since Ellen White and Joseph Smith aren't related in any fashion, at least not directly. Who knows maybe the "so-called spirits" went into Mary Eddy Baker of Christian Scientists. You need to know during that period of time there was alot of religious excitement. And different other religions had their beginnings there, too. eg. Jehovah's Witnesses Also, if anyone can answer my question about Rea and Ford. I would appreciate it. |

Addendum info: The connection between Ellen White and the Mormons is through Ellen White's mother's side. |

It is a fact that EGWs cousin (I believe a second cousin or first cousin once removed) became one of Joseph Smith's wives--his sixth, I believe. Her name was Anna. There is also some evidence that there was a connection between two women known as the Daggett sisters and Joseph Smith and James White. One of the Daggetts was a "spiritual wife" of Joseph Smith. I don't know if there's solid proof of this or not, but there is some evidence that the other Daggett sister was a spiritual wife of James White. It is a matter of record that when EGW came to Loma Linda about the time the property was purchased for the medical school, Ellen made a trip to Daggett, California. (The Dagget sisters moved to the high desert of California at some point, and the existing town of Daggett was named after them.) There doesn't seem to be any record of why she went there, but she obviously knew someone or had some reason to go to Daggett. It's also a matter of record that Ellen's mother and a sibling lived and died in Nauvoo, the famed Mormon town where Joseph Smith was murdered in jail. Colleen |

Thanks, Colleen, for the additional history between the SDA's and the Mormons. I knew I had heard this info once before but I just couldn't remember where I had seen it. Alison |

While reading some of the earlier posts in this thread, it hit me how close early adventism was to post-modern thought. It is not far from the early adventist slippery "Present Truth" that kept changing to "This is my truth, but that is your truth". I am thankful for the growing Christian community, living in a post-modern world, that stands for Truth that never changes! -Darrell |

That was my thouht about the Oprah show that focused upon Loma Linda and how healthy the Adventists were. One of the spokespersons for the university (I think) was saying how tolerant Adventists were of other beliefs, that differences didn't matter. I had to listen to it twice to make sure I heard it correctly. If any of you know about this show and heard the same thing, I'd like to know. I mean, really? Adventists are tolerant? Was he serious or just lying to make the university look good. Is this the latest from the "moral influence" crowd. Oh yeah, Jesus didn't really have to die; he just did to impress us with how much he loves us. People joke when they say, "It's all about me." I guess Adventism actually believes it now. Wow, I'm gone 30 years and everything goes to pot! Craig |

I don't know if the officialdom of SDA is tolerant. I do know that in the pews, you can find people with very different beliefs and still be "in good member standing" in the "church". Hec |

Yes, that "tolerance" is very "Loma Linda". Theologically, Loma Linda tends to be liberal and "tolerant" of all sorts of things. The LLU Medical Center has Muslim prayer mats in the chapel, and the chapel in the LLU Chidlren's hospital not only has Muslim prayer mats but an arrow on the ceiling pointing the direction of Mecca. Yes, Darrell...I agree about SDA and post-modernism. I've thought about that, too. Adventism fits right into the post-modern emergent church movement. Colleen |
