I am wondering is it just me OD'ing of Daniel Revelation Crusades slide shows, or did some of you mix the events up also? I know in Adventist lore Oct 22, 1844 was the day that they falsely predicted Christ was to return. Even as a kid I knew he didn't but instead I thought that the reason the Millerite/SDAs believed they were correct was because-- (i) the Stars fell from Heaven, (ii) the Moon, "turned to blood" and, (iii) either the day before or after (i.e., Oct 21 or Oct 23) the Sun turned to darkness It all happened together. As an adult I know they were all separate and discrete events that happened YEARS apart. Again was I the only one or did any of y'all think that too--even if for a while? Ben |

Interesting question, Ben. I learned that they were separated by years, but it was "explained" to us in Bible class in such a way that the biblical prophecies about the three things were made to seem disconnected to each other in spite of what the clear words of Scripture describe. The Bible prophesies these events as happening within very close proximity to each other. I'd also like to hear how others understood it; it makes me wonder if the confusion changed over the years. Perhaps during the last 15-20 years, give or take, SDA elementary schools have been lees precise in teaching these things so as to "avoid confusion" in the students... Colleen |

I know these events happened years apart but they were said the be the forecasters of Jesus second coming. I as "true, blue, believer". I never questioned anything about adventism, period!! During the 25+ years I did not read the Bible and very seldom went to church God cleared all that "stuff" from my memory. I haven't though of those events for years. Diana L |

What I've heard recently from SDA sources--regarding the sun, moon, and stars, it that it will be fulfilled 'again' just before Jesus' coming. They say it is the same as the tribulation in Jerusalem--will be fulfilled again at the end of time. However--I'd like to point out that the moon turning to blood, apparently is 'fulfilled' each time there is a lunar eclipse. Just a few weeks ago there was a lunar eclipse, and among the Adventist circle, I heard that Jesus was coming back very very soon... soon there will be the One World order etc. etc. to bring about the end of time. It seems that Adventists are preoccupied with the prophecy portion of Scripture, because they have to be in the 'know' of what is to take place, that they have forgotten about the Gospel portion of Scripture, which helps you understand that God has it all under control--in His control. And honestly, I find that personally I have some trouble with this part. Because SDAism was so big on prophecy, I find myself thinking of it often, in terms of how it fits in with what I have now come to know about: e.g Mark of the Beast, who is the beast, etc. Does prophecy bug anyone else out there? |

MK, I've never gotten into the prophecy parts that much myself. Due to the many many conspiracy theories that float around out there, is why I've focused mostly on the Gospel itself. To me it's about getting people saved. That's the Evangelist in me though. Jesus said no man knows the hour and that's good enough for me. In the meantime, I believe He's wanting us to be prepared for His return, but bring as many with us as we can. In a conversation I had with an Atheist once he asked, "How will you know it's Him?" I simply replied "He'll be the only one standing." and quoted this verse: For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. (Romans 14:11) |

I studied prophecy for several years and really enjoyed it, I would still enjoy it if I had the time to put into it. I don't. True study of prophecy does not have anything to do with conspiracy theories. The true studies in bible prophecy is in the study of the Word alone and has nothing to do with conjectures or every time some body chokes on a corn flake. I believe God does call some into that ministry, but I feel like Dljc does about it, he wants me to prepare for his coming by bringing as many with me as I can. The ones I know whom I believe God has called to study prophecy uses that to end their message with this, "Accept Jesus as your Savior, now is the day of salvation. Now is the accepted time. Their ministry in prophecy is simply another means to preach the message of salvation, not for their or someone elses amusement or sick addiction to something they cannot possibly know. River |

Because of the topic of this current thread of 1844.... I repost again this song/poem ?? for those new to this forum, I hope you enjoy it(chuckle,chuckle)... The year was 1844 and something was astir Because the plucky Millerites thought big things would occur But when they woke the morning of October 23 They all were disappointed and the cause was clear to see The flock had played the numbers game and got the math all wrong And now two cent’ries later we remember with this song That if you need a certain way to flee the coming wrath Then get a guy who knows his stuff before you do the math Or better yet don’t set a date for when things should occur And don’t tell anyone your thoughts no matter if you’re sure Oh spare a thought for Miller while remembering his plight For it was he who led the flock that cold October night The legacy he left behind still haunts us to this day Though many wish the numbers thing would simply go away For now instead of saying that the earth was being cleansed We got the funny notion that the Judgment had commenced Initiated by the King’s decree, 457 starting Then add in seven decades to the true prophetic charting Subtract 490 from 2 thousand and 3 hundred Which takes you right up to the end of days divinely numbered Oh yes, of course, how silly that we never saw before… Investigative Judgment starts in 1844 For if you know prophetically a day is like a year The Sanctuary Doctrine, then, quite readily appears And with the Prophet’s blessing we are certain that it’s true Though other Bible scholars still don’t have the slightest clue Which means that it’s our duty to proclaim it to the rest To prove that we’re the Remnant whose theology is best. ************************************************* I was also taught that in the 1700's(I think 1755?) that a massive earthquake occured that shook the whole world. SDA use that also as a sign that the end was near. They taught me that these signs would happen again at the very end of time. The phrase they used to explain the repeating signs was..."dual fulfillment" of bible prophecies. Animal is STILL waiting....sigh >>>Animal...passing the time waiting by drinking rootbeer and munching on popcorn...LOL LOL LOL |

I,too, have been very interested in prophecy. But I also learned not to become overly consumed in studying about it. I have learned that the most important thing that I must concentrated on is my relationship with Jesus Christ. Yes, prophecy has its place in the timing of Jesus Christ's return but he must remain the focal point in my life. |

I tend to lean more towards the Orthodox Preterist (partial preterist)with regards to end of age prophecy. Paul |

I tend to lean toward possum and sweet taters, I never had a preterist for dinner. Is that a root vegetable or a leafy vegetable Paul? |

Mk, so adventists say this will happen again. That I have not heard. Of course I am older then you and I have not heard the latest sda "good news" in a long, long time. I just leave all that to our awesome God. If He wants me to know as I study my Bible He will let me know. I trust Him to take care of me what ever is happening. Diana L |
