I'm doing some research on a related topic and ran across this wikipedia page on the Teachings of Ellen G White. I don't have time to critique it thoroughly at this point but was surprised to see how sketchy some portions are, and also by the fact it appears not to be contested. Anybody have a chance to read it and consider whether it is a fair and balanced portrait of EGW's teachings?

This part is a total crock:

quote:

Her theology was Christ-centered, particularly since the 1888 Minneapolis General Conference.

As well, this one is a laugher:

quote:

Arthur Patrick believes that White was an "evangelical", in that she had high regard for the Bible, saw the cross as central, supported righteousness by faith, believed in Christian activism, and sought to restore New Testament Christianity.

Oh, my goodness...you're right. That page does not represent reality at all. Once again, the words are deceptive and depend on the private interpretation of the words Adventists use. Adventists are "evangelical"? I think not...

yes... it's hard to get past that first paragraph! I started in the second section where the author was reviewing her "music style and guidelines." In the second paragraph, the author quotes her:

quote:

"The Holy Spirit never reveals Itself in such methods, in such a bedlam of noise. ...

I would have never noticed that before... the she referred to the Holy Spirit as "It."

Was this common in her writings?

Vivian, yes it was very common in her writings and is still quite common within Adventism today.
