My wife and I finally found a church we really feel comfortable in, here in Connecticut. In the past, when we've visited places, we've distinctly felt a check in our spirits about that place, but here we feel the Spirit is pleased for us to be here. The church is Trinity Baptist of Fairfield. Anyway, the church has been going through Matthew, and today the Pastor gave a sermon on Matthew 24. He talked about how he had been raised, as a Dispensationalist, to believe that the church would be raptured before the Tribulation, but how he no longer believes this. This is a positive to me because I don't agree with Dispensationalism on this point. But more fascinatingly, he pointed out how Jesus' statements to His disciples about the end of the age are parallels to the last several texts in Revelation 9, and they are perfect parallels to the seven seals in Revelation 6-7. For instance: False Christs As an Adventist, I always thought this was the true Jesus going forth as the Gospel spread to the whole earth. However, this doesn't make sense, because the Lamb is in Heaven, and the white horseman is one of four imilar horsemen, and the other three are distinctly NOT Jesus. Wars and Rumors of Wars Famine, Scarcity Persecution I thought this was really cool and really opened my eyes to different interpretations of Revelation and Daniel than the tripe I had grown up with in Adventism. | ||

I noticed that you said your church is "going through Matthew." That's one thing that I've never noticed Adventist churches doing - just going straight through a book of the Bible that way. The SDA pastors would find themselves in awkward positions if they preached through a book in context! What the Bible says would undermine Adventist doctrine!  Especially books like Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, etc... Oh, and Romans, and 2nd Corinthians and Hebrews too!!! | ||

On Saturday evenings I attend a Calvary Chapel. The minister is preaching through the gospel of Luke, a verse at a time. I really like it. I like the church God told me to attend. The only problem with it is that right now the preacher is talking about relationships. Everything he says I have learned in CR. I can see where God has changed me. So I attend Calvary Chapel on Saturday evening. I have been praying about it. I like the preaching. I will just wait and see if God wants me to change churches. Life as an Adventist is all about changing Gods mind about you. If it wasn’t, there would be no investigative judgment. The truth is we cannot change Gods mind about us, we must change our mind about him. In changing our mind about God, we must become like a strip miner. A strip miner does not mine a strip of ground, rather he takes a section of ground that has proven ore bearing and begins at the surface, taking a layer at a time, one after the other and filtering the soil through. When he gets done with one layer, he takes another deep layer and filters that. Soon he has to build roads to get the trucks down to where he is taking layers of dirt, rock and soil for mining. I don’t think it is so important for a person emerging from Adventism to accept a certain theological set of beliefs such as dispensate or not to dispensate. That is like settling into a soil that has already been mined. In order for the former to really grow, he must seek for the deep things of God, not what he finds laying on the surface out here among these churches. The emerging Adventist comes out to search for an already mined section to settle on, where the layers have already been filtered for him, his mind is on whether or not the previous miner mined the ground to his liking, instead of mining for himself. Evangelicals mine a few layers, then decides that’s all there is, and he keeps filtering previous dirt already filtered by the heavy machinery of theology, when there are untapped depths in the Spirit of God, no end to the layers of God. For a person to dig deep he must have his spiritual eyes open, and use Spiritual tools available. He must begin to get away from the surface and be willing to allow the Spirit of God to take him deeper into the things of God. I don't meant to say to go off without proving up on everything by the word of God, but in concert with the word of God. Me, I ain’t settling for used dirt. Go for it Dianna, stay open to God. Thanks for a great provocative post River. Just this morning I prayed that as I read the bible that the HOLY SPIRIT would teach me. NOT FAF forum, or anyone else. I can take what I hear, read, etc to the word of God & ask HIm what is true. I told Him I didn't want to confirm what I want to believe, I didn't want to read 'into' the word but wanted to know Him & His truth. I saw a great scripture in Jeremiah. & it was exciting to see what God was showing me. I am holding some questions in my mind as I read through the bible again, & He is bringing things to my attention. Some to be considered, some to be questioned, some to be accepted & shared. J9 | ||
