I just finished reading a book and saw an ad at the back of it for this website called "Conversantlife.com". The tagline was "engage your faith." I was curious and I decided to check it out. On the home page is different information on the latest blogs and some of their new bloggers, etc. I scrolled down to the bottom and saw an area where there were 3 columns and the column at the very right was about "recent answers to." I saw that one of the questions was "What's up with the Sabbath..." I clicked on the link and then read the 5 comments that were left. The "qualified" answer wasn't a good answer and I think it leaves people wide open for an adventist to ask "Don't you believe in the 10C's?" Here's part of the response
The very next poster added this:
Obviously, this person really doesn't know how far deep the Adventist Sabbath goes. What I found most disturbing... even more disturbing than the answers above were the following comments. A man wrote left a comment that he was dating an sda girl who he felt very connected to. He asked if there were going to be divisions in their family life if they were to get married. The poster above basically said that as long as she didn't see observing a sabbath as a belief and that it was more of a "practice" that he should compromise (GASP!!!!) and attend her church! Lately, I have had a couple of friends who know adventists through work etc., and I can't keep quiet when they tell me that the beliefs are benign. I have taken to telling them exactly what the adventists really believe the end time scenarios will bring. They hear about the Sunday laws, the persecution they believe they will receive from the Sunday keepers for keeping the Sabbath. I get started and I can't stop. I go into the investigative judgement, the plagerism, the belief that Jesus' death did not complete our atonement, and on I go. I guess I have too much information up there in my head! I don't at all hate the adventists, but I sure do get riled up knowing that they are portraying their beliefs as mainline Christian!! I'm doing my part to make sure the deception is exposed. One adventist woman got angry when my friend told her what the former adventist (me) told him. They said "she is going to be sorry in the end times" | ||

Thanks guys for posting! Bb~ I completely understand. I work in a dental office and what I say in my operatory can be heard in the other rooms. I'm sure my boss and the assistants are tired of hearing me educate my patients about adventism... but they might as well get used to it! ha! I don't like it either when they portray their beliefs as mainstream. Although, I do think that some actually believe that their theology IS mainstream and don't know how divergent it is. ... any patient that comes in and is willing to listen to me (they usually are since I'm the one with sharp implements! ha! ... good motivators!) I tell them what I can about adventism in order to educate them. vivian | ||

Wow! Can't they see that the Sabbaths were shadows that were fulfilled by Jesus and that He [Jesus] is our Sabbath now?? (Colossians 2:16,17) Adventists even think that the Sabbath is the Seal, though the Bible very clearly says that the Holy Spirit is the Seal!!! Ephesians 1:3,14 Someone who believes that way is an "Adventist waiting to happen" - seems to me! | ||

I completely agree Asurprise... they are leaving people in a great position for an adventist to point out that the weekly Sabbath was never on a Sunday. I was talking to my sda cousin yesterday who plays piano for a Sunday church. He said that they just preached about how "Sunday" is the Christian Sabbath. What a disservice. Sigh... I just posted in the discussion. I generally avoid posting things on other sites that start debate (instead choosing to post scriptural insights only), but this conversation was rubbing me the wrong way. The conversation was being steered down the "31 flavors of the IJ" path (becoming a distraction) and missing the dangers of the SDA Sabbath doctrine. What is bothering me is that the sda poster is not using any scripture reference. In fact, when he defended his belief in Satan being the scapegoat and that Jesus and Michael the archangel are the same... he just wrote that there were other theologians who believed the same way he did. He did not defend himself by using God's word... our sword. Michael, I'm glad you steered it back to the Sabbath question. I hope that the initial poster who wrote in about his question of marrying an adventist will check back in. I pray that through this conversation, the HS will help him see the difficulties he may have. Ultimately, he will make his decision... I just hope he's aware of issues he is getting into. Even better, I pray that God may use him to reach his girlfriend. vivian | ||
