The Bible is so much more wonderful than I ever knew as an adventist. I get so excited when I read something I never read/understood before! Here is a very cool thing I heard on Christian radio the other day (didn't get the name of the man doing the teaching): What are the only two books of the Bible named after women? Ruth and Esther. Ruth was a Gentile who married a Jew. Through her line, Jesus the Messiah came. Esther was a Jew who married a Gentile. Through her, the people through whom the Messiah would come were preserved. |

Nowisee, That's really cool! Two of my favorite books. Ruth is the first of five women mentioned in Jesus' genealogy in the first chapter of Matthew. The others are: Tamar - she disguised herself as a prostitute to produce an heir with and for her father-in-law, Judah. (Gen 38) Rahab - you may remember, she was the prostitute in Jericho who hid and protected the spies Joshua sent. (Joshua 2) Bathsheba - David's wife. Of course, Jesus is the heir to the throne of David. (2 Samuel 11) Mary - Jesus' mom. Each of these women were special and had their own unique stories in the Bible. Biblical family trees are usually hard to follow, but isn't it interesting that our Lord's own genealogy mentioned them? Leigh Anne FYI, I studied up on these ladies after reading a series by author Francine Rivers. She did a short historical novella about each one. They're wonderful little books! |

I agree Nowisee! The Bible is like a treasure box with lots of gift boxes in it waiting to be opened. Something new to learn everyday. I believe that it's only been through the work of the Holy Spirit in my life that the Bible has any meaning for me. I tried to read the Bible before... but it didn't mean anything to me. It's much different now. vivian |

I love the books of Ruth (my middle name) and Esther. When I was challenged to read the NT back in Dec 2003 and started reading it Jan 1 2004 I started with Matthew and saw the names of these women and was so surprised. I have never noticed them before. Yes, the Bible is full of meaning now. I do not know it all, as I did as an sda. What a crock that is!!! Love all of you and have a Happy Thanksgiving. Diana L |
