Can't remember if I'd posted this vision before: Then I was shown a company who were howling in agony. On their garments was written in large characters, "Thou art weighed in the balance, and found wanting." I asked who this company were. The angel said, "These are they who have once kept the Sabbath and have given it up." I heard them cry with a loud voice, "We have believed in Thy coming, and taught it with energy." And while they were speaking, their eyes would fall upon their garments and see the writing, and then they would wail aloud. I saw they had drunk of the deep waters, and fouled the residue with their feet -- trodden the Sabbath underfoot -- and that was why they were weighed in the balance and found wanting (Early Writings, p. 37 |

WOW! Are we going to have to learn to speak in Shakespearian english? I have a hard time reading it out loud, let alone speaking it. I'm dyslexic, so it's difficult for me to read it out loud. Sure glad I'm under grace.. |

Or in English: I saw a group of people who were howling in agony. On their clothing was written in large letters, "You are weighed and found shy of perfection." I asked who these people were. The angel said, "Folks who had the Sabbath and gave it up." I heard them cry with a loud voice, "We believed in your coming and taught it non stop." And while they spoke, their eyes would (pop out of their sockets) so they could see the writing, and they would scream. I saw they had drunk of the lies, and fouled their feet in residue-- trampled their beliefs of the Sabbath-- that was why they came up two fires short of a Happy Meal. Okay that came out more like a paraphrase. However this brings up a question...how could she see this...if we're all supposedly Annihalated acording to Adventism.? |

I ast who these folks wuz, and the feller said, "These is folks who couldn't make it to town on sateday." I heered them beller out, "We believed in yer coming and hid air heads in the sand, and et possum non-stop." And whilst they puckered they lips, they eyes popped out on them little springs so's they could see whut was writ and beller agin! I seen they had stepped in a pile of horse poop up to they hips, tromped around the barn, and thats why they et chicken gizzards fer lunch. I don't need to sign this, cause yall kin tell who writ it just by lookin at the wratten. My Arky makes more sense than Ellem What. |

Rossbond---don't worry about the paraphrase. Just pretend you're Jack Blanco and just created the "Clear Word" version of EGW |

Hey, everyone--I'd been looking for this quote (for another forum) until late last night and got so excited when I found it, I just had to post it here, too. (For all the times that we hear that sdas believe in salvation by faith/grace alone.) |

Simple. This happened before annihilation. Hec |

Not only the Annihilation Doctrine, but what about Soul Sleep? Why aren't those people asleep? |

She probably is being "shown" this vision of the future, and I'm sure the adventists will say that she is just referring to the howling of being burned until they are annihilated. Just my personal opinion of how they would spin this. |

River, that was funny!!! Which makes me wonder. Why DID Ellen White's and Joseph Smith's angels speak to them in King James English??? Wasn't that spoken back in the 16 hundreds or something? Ellen White and Joseph Smith lived in the 18 hundreds. (My Mormon half-sister says it's because it's a holier language!!!) Nowisee, here's another quote. The official E.G. White Estate is sure handy!!! You can type in a couple words into their search box and find where Ellen White wrote something. I typed in "Holy God mediator" because I remember Ellen White saying people would live at the end without a mediator. (I got to one of the quotes and clicked on "Cached.") I'll copy and paste it here. It comes from "The Great Controversy" by EG White in chapter 24 "In the Holy of Holies." quote: "Says the prophet: "Who may abide the day of His coming? and who shall stand when He appeareth? for He is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: and He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness." Malachi 3:2, 3. Those who are living upon the earth when the intercession of Christ shall cease in the sanctuary above are to stand in the sight of a holy God without a mediator. Their robes must be spotless, their characters must be purified from sin by the blood of sprinkling. Through the grace of God and their own diligent effort they must be conquerors in the battle with evil. While the investigative judgment is going forward in heaven, while the sins of penitent believers are being removed from the sanctuary, there is to be a special work of purification, of putting away of sin, among God's people upon earth. This work is more clearly presented in the messages of Revelation 14." Wow! Did you notice "THEIR OWN DILIGENT EFFORT" as part of the requirement for Heaven??? I kind of skimmed over that quote when I was an SDA. No wonder there are so many sad-faced Adventists (especially the older ones like I saw at an SDA campmeeting I went to back when I was an SDA. Even as an Adventist, I wondered why they looked so sad and hopeless.) (Message edited by Asurprise on September 26, 2010) |

Great thread! It's pretty horrifying to think about the deeply tiwsted, blasphemous ways we were taught to think about the Lord Jesus and our salvation. Yet even those who didn't "learn" EGW did learn the general "shape" of hopelessness and fear. Her interpretations shaped our whole worldview. Where, I ask you, is there any biblical hint of a "great controversy between Christ and Satan"??? My Bible states Satan is already a defeated foe (Col 2:15). Nowisee, thanks for posting that quote. It's proof of why friends and family are so disturbed that we don't keep the Sabbath. Jesus just isn't enough...we will still be found wanting. |
