John 10:22 indicates the Feast Of Dedication, which was in winter,a feast not commanded by God as far as I can tell, but seems to indicate Hanukkah. Now weather or not Hanukkah is celebrated now as it was then, I do not know, but it seemed to be important enough to include in the word of God. I believe this was in dedication to the restoring of the temple some 50 years prior to the birth of Jesus when the attackers from the north who subjugated Jerusalem, and defiled the temple with pig blood and pagan rituals, were driven out by the Maccabees . I think this event is historically covered in the books of Maccabees, and by Josephus , but also prophetically covered in the book of Daniel as the cleansing of the sanctuary. It is now Hanukkah, so I call this to remembrance for comment. God bless Chris (Message edited by christo on December 14, 2009) |

I haven't gone through the math on this but it sounded interesting..... "When Zechariah was ministering in the temple, he received an announcement from God of a coming son. The eighth course of Abia, when Zechariah was ministering, was the week of Sivan 12 to 18 (Killian n.d.). Adding forty weeks for a normal pregnancy reveals that John the Baptist was born on or about Passover (Nisan 14). We know six months after John's conception, Mary conceived Jesus (Luke 1:26-33). Therefore, Jesus would have been conceived six months later in the month of Kislev. Kislev 25 is Hanukkah. Was the "light of the world" conceived on the festival of lights? - excerpt from http://biblicalholidays.com/Tabernacles/birth_of_christ.htm " In Christ, Brian |

I think I was referring to Antiochus IV Epiphanes, king of Syria and overlord of Palestine. I think I first read about him in Desmond Fords Work, but the link Brian provided has a whole lowdown on him and seams to be a main character in the events surrounding the liberation that spawned Hanukkah. This is a thorn in the side of the sda sanctuary message, and I always wondered if John 10:22 was just one of those verses necessary to pop the sda bubble. Here is the link, although I caution I did see the Hebrew Roots entitlement on one of the links on this sight. http://biblicalholidays.com/Hanukkah/chanukah-overview.htm We know in Christ their is neither Jew nor Greek, bond nor free.
