Have a good rest Sondra. Right now I feel the need for speed, but it looks like a rainy weekend, so I guess I will spend the weekend tucked in with an airbrush painting the picture on the other side of my motorcycle trailer. River |

A skeleton comes tearing out of the desert on an old chopper, flames shooting from the back of his head, and out of his tail pipe, lightening strikes the desert floor behind him and shoots out of his eye sockets, his head light gives off an eerie blue glow. I kind of got the idea from the story I wrote called The Underlings, my first attempt to write a story in Steven King style. The story is about a hobo who ends up on the Chicago East end and finds a free Adventist Seminar, being an opportunist he goes to the seminar to see what he can steal from the audience, Fred and Inez takes him home and cleans him up, then takes him to a potluck, they can't see the devil in their midst, but he can, and it frightens him. I got the idea for the story when a friend sent me pictures of an Adventist college and EGW when she was old, nothing I write can be more frightening or macabre than the real thing, but I tried. You don't know just how twisted and fearful a thing you have been delivered from when you were delivered out of Adventism. I will send you a picture of the trailer, pleasant dreams Skeeter. Boohoowaaa! River |

Sorry Jody, couldn't resist. Yall can get on back to the future. I used to be into that stuff, and I was fascinated by those studies. It is very interesting to read what others think of it, we being such a wide variety of people and all. River |

I woulod like to see the picture ! I didnt know you were an artist River. I agree Hec,that does sound like a good one for a SDA seminar.. when I went a couple weeks ago to pick up my daughter from one of those seminars (she was there with her husband)I peeked in the door where the meeting was going on and the whole back of the pulpit was covered with a huge mural in shades of red and orange with the words "War in Heaven". About made me puke ! But anyway I got her out of there and managed to sneak some "Bible Challenge" fliers under windshield wipers and left a stack in the church foyer LOL..... I hope at least a few of them got picked up and read. That reminds me I need to print up some more. I did a little changing on the original one as I felt the first sentence on the original would cause a lot of SDA's to toss it immediately. Also there was something on there about the writer knowing some people would be calling him,,, which did not apply. |

This is my slightly revised version of the Bible Challenge: Do you really want to learn what the Bible has to say? What it really means to you as a child of God, here and now? I ask you to pray about taking this simple Bible Challenge. It is time for the Lord to teach you in His own special way exactly what He wants you to know about Him and what He expects of you. It is that simple. A lot of things changed at the cross and many churches (including SDA) makes some serious mistakes here. You have been misinformed. It is time for you to stop listening to everyone else, and learn from the Lord Himself! Do you know that the Holy Spirit is with us for just this purpose? (Time to pause here for a moment and let it sink in. It is so awesome! We have our own private Teacher.) First - Put away all of your SDA literature, all of Mrs. White's books, all of your sabbath school quarterlies, your Adventist Reviews; don't watch 3ABN or or It Is Written or Amazing Facts, etc. for 1 entire month. Can you do that? Second - Read the New Testament every day for the next month. Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you and teach you as you read about the New Covenant (versus the OLD covenant) that we have with God. This shouldn't really frighten you if the SDA church is truly bible-based. If it's not, then you will find out one way or the other. How does that sound? Don't let this overwhelm you... it is not a marathon to be run, it is food for your soul that must be taken in a bite at a time. Now begin to read and re-read the New Testament through for the next month with only the aide of the Holy Spirit. Just sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to Him. Feel free to ask Him questions! To start you may want to read the New Testament briskly through as if it were the newspaper. Then read it slowly and savor every word and thought. Get comfy when you read it. Read a passage then close your eyes and pretend you are on the shores of Galilee with a light, warm breeze blowing gently against you while Jesus is talking to you. Be at the Sermon on the Mount. Enjoy it. It is the Living Word of God. Next, take the Bible for what it says. For example, if it says "there is now no more condemnation for you who are in Christ Jesus", believe it because it is true! Never mind what else you may have been taught - take the Bible at it's word. We can believe the Bible, take it for what it says, and if you don't understand something, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. Ask the Lord to help you understand (that is THE ONLY WAY to get true understanding), and as you keep reading, and feed your mind with more of the simple truth of God, you will understand that which you couldn't before. If you come to a confusing part, skip ahead a short ways until you come to a part you can easily understand. Don't try to memorize it right now. Each portion of the Bible has it's own flavor and texture. It is alive. Read it and re-read it. It is food so think of it as if it were food. You don't eat all of your daily food all at once, do you? Nibble on a few passages when you have a moment. Sit down for 10 or 20 minutes and feed yourself with a chapter or two. Stop and let your brain digest it. Always say your prayers before your feed your soul - a few simple words like "Dear Jesus, here I am again. Help me to understand your word. Protect me as I read." Keep at it until you are happy and satisfied that you understand what the Lord wants from you. He doesn't give us a huge list of things to do and things not to do; He did that in the Old Testament to prove a point - a relationship with Him doesn't work that way. We only have 2 Commandments now (yes, this is where we have to take the Bible for what is says!). As Christians, the 2 Commandments Jesus wants us to follow are : 1) Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. 2) Love your neighbor as yourself. Now read Acts 15 and see what the Apostle Paul has to say about it. Third - Put away whatever Bible you have been using for church or studies and treat yourself to a different translation of the Bible than you normally use. If you can't afford to buy a new version, simply go to your local library and borrow one. Get one that is brand new to you. The idea here is to get away from all of the half-verses you think you know, and to get away from all of your little side notes and highlighting and underlining that you've been putting in over the years. In fact, you can get several versions and read them all. You should be able to pick up some inexpensive ones. New King James Version is nice. The Living Bible is nice and easy. The New International Version is nice. The New American Standard is nice. The Amplified Bible is nice. The Please don't let anyone tell you that one translation is any better than another - that's not what's important now. Later on, if you decide to go on for a Ph.D. in Theology, you can be picky about which version you read. Remember, the only true version of the Bible is written in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. All others are ONLY translations and are EQUALLY valuable with two exceptions: Please stay away from New World Translation (Jehovah's Witness) and The Clear Word Bible as these both have many additions and deletions and side notes that are not in the original translations. Does that sound too hard? If the SDA church is truly Christ-oriented, then studying the Bible alone will only confirm that. Regardless, what better way could you spend the next month but than by being totally immersed in the New Covenant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ ? I already know that some of you are going to say "We should read the WHOLE Bible, not just the New Testament". This is absolutely true, but since the teachings of the Seventh-day Adventist Church are so deeply rooted in the Old Testament, they don't really teach much from the New Testament. This is not reading "the WHOLE Bible" either. If you are a Christian, you need to know what Christ wants you to know about our New Covenant that we have with Him. If that doesn't interest you, well....perhaps you are not really a Christian............... |

Skeeter, I have a parallel bible with four different translations in it and when I come to a confusing section I can read it in one of there four and usually get an understanding. This might help for those who can not afford to buy diffent translations. Gail |

Skeeter, I like ur Bible challenge except for the part about the only two commandments we have to follow.I cant totally agree with that statement and it would def be too much for an Adventist.Remember all of the 10 commandments are repeated in the New Testament except for the 4th one. When I am discussing this with Adventists I show them Acts 1:2 that says that Jesus gave the Apostles Commandments over a period of forty days. They then ask well what are they? To which i then proceed to show them 1 Cor 14:37 where Paul says that the things that he writes are the Commandments of the Lord.(The Word Commandment is present in te KJV but may be replaced by something else in other translations, however alot of SDA's use the KJV) I continue to tell them that the New Testament is our guide now and that all of the 10 commandments are reapeated there in the Epistles except for #4.The only place we r told to keep the Sabbath is in Romans 17.To which they reply that there is no Romans 17 and I say EXACTLY!! and no instructions for Sabbath Keeping either. Jesus is our True Sabbath Rest Of course this always goes rite over there veiled heads |

WOW! Another aha moment! "If you love me keep my commandments." John 14:15 SDAs immediately ask, what commandments? Then they refer you to the 10C as Christ's commandments. So one has to explain to them how Christ's commandments are different from the 10C. But here we have a clear "thus saith the Lord." Act 1:2 KJV "Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen" So, what are Jesus' commandments? What the Apostles teach in the NT. Example: 1Co 14:37 "If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord." Thanks Jody for the insight. Has anyone a way to explain why SDAs apply the "principle" a day in prophecy equals a year to all prophecies that has to do with the sanctuary, etc. 2,300 days 1,335 days A time, two times and a half times 42 months etc. But when it comes to the millennium they take the 1,000 years literally? Would it make it too long to apply the "principle", 360,000 years? Hec |

Hec, I just read in Numbers Chapter 14 that the Hebrew peoople would be in the wilderness forty years, one year for each day the spies were in Canaan. Somehow, that does not seem to support a "day-age" theory. Fearless Phil |

Hec, in addition, Jesus Himself identified His commandment: quote:"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another" (John 13:34)
Loving one another as Jesus loved us is utterly impossible apart from being born again and filled with God's own Spirit. It means caring for another's salvation and well-being to the point of dying for the sake of their ultimate good. Think, for example, of Jim Elliot and Nate Saint who were murdered by the Auca Indians in the 50's as they attempted to reach that cannibalistic tribe with the gospel. Jesus' commands (indeed, the teachings of the whole New Testament) depend upon being "in" Him. They are not behaviors we can pursue by will power. Colleen |

Hec, I am not sure why anyone takes the 1000 years literally in Rev 20 since the entire Epistle is written in an apocalyptic genre. That is one of the reasons I lean to an Amill posistion. I dont read Jesus ever talkin about the 1000 year time period either. As far as the 2300 days in Daniel 8 that Adventists use to support there sanctuary doctrine, the literal reading isnt days in that passage but is actually evenings and mornings. Most of the newer translations use this as the wording. To say that this is supposed to be years is bogus. If the Adventists want to use this interpretive method then they shouldnt recognize the 1000 years as literal either. If John wanted to tell us about 1000 years then he would of said 1000 days wouldnt he?? I mean they should at least be consistent in their methods of interpretation. Does anyone know why William Miller thought the 2nd coming could happen before the seven last plaques had occured? Or did he think they already had occured? |

One interesting comment I read regarding the Amill. position is about Christs' work as our high priest. Hebrews points out that, on Earth, Christ could not be our high priest or minister for us. He was of the tribe of Judah, not Levi. As long as a sinful earth remains, that fact also remains true. Therefore, He cannot both reign and intercede for us during an earthly millenium. The Bible says that Christ everliveth to intercede for us, which means that this action has to be done in heaven. That precludes an eathly millenium. |

The Levitical priesthood was established under the Old Covenant. When Christ died this covenant/law was nail to the cross. Jesus is of another priesthood that has been in place for the better part of two thousand years. There is no Biblical support for the claim that Jesus cannot reign here on earth for a thousand years. The book of Hebrews speaks to this topic. The book of Revelation speaks of a literal thousand years. The Biblical support for this amil concept appears, to me at least, to be lacking. Fearless Phil |

Hebrews 7:12 also states that when there is a change of the priesthood, there is a change of the law. Jesus, the High Priest in the order of Melchizedek, ushered in the new priesthood, and with it, the change from old covenant law to the new covenant law of Christ. The Levitical priesthood was not connected with sinful earth per se; it was connected with the Mosaic Covenant. Jesus ushered in the Melchizedek priesthood, and, as Peter says, He has made us, His body, a kingdom of priests forever. Jesus and His Melchizedek priesthood intercedes for us, and we, as his body, are His kingdom of priests on earth. The Levitical priesthood was determined by birth: only those born to the tribe of Levi could be priests. The new covenant priesthood is also determined by birth—by the new birth. Only those born of the Spirit can become priests of the Living God. It's so amazing that the Creator indwells mortal bodies and gives us work to do that is eternal in its significance. Astonishing! Philharris - "The book of Revelation speaks of a literal thousand years." Then it also says that Satan is a literal dragon/serpent that is literally bound with a literal chain and thrown into a literal abyss. "Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven with the key to the abyss and a great chain in his hand. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for 1,000 years. (Rev 20:1-2 HCSB)" |
