If this is the case, then sugar & trans fats must be the quintessential elements of that message.

My comment was: Little Debbie crap cakes have got enough preservatives to use as a wood treatment.

"Oatie" and "Swissy"? It must have taken ages to come up with those names!!!!!

I wouldn't buy a box of Little Debbie's, or anything that I know of, that contributes or helps the SDA church. I never was much of a Little Debbie fan anyway. If I was going to waste calories on something sweet, there were other things that would be much higher on the "delicious scale" than those processed little treats!

So if I go to the local geocery on Saturday and buy a little debbie, would that violate their Sabbath?

Little Debbie, (McKee Bakery) is not a SDA institution. The owner is SDA, but the business is not.

Yeah, but the McKees are big names in the SDA layman's organization, ASI. They are HUGE donors to Adventist projects. So, the Little Debbie factory is not specifically SDA, but the Little Debbie profits contribute hugely to SDA organizations, and the McKees have a lot of clout and say-so when it comes to policies and decisions at places like Southern Adventist University, etc.

The book Theologian's Journey by Jerry Gladson gave some hints about McKee's power there in the 80s...

Yes, the McKees do have an inordinate amount of power in the Southern Union, especially at SAU.

Paul,

On another forum, (forget which one) they were talking about how great it was that Little Debbie's logo was covered during Sabbath on the Nascar car that they sponsor. So, I asked the same question, about selling their products on Sabbath. The answer was that once the store owner bought the product it was no longer under their control.

So the car raced for some other sponsor on Saturdays? Or was Little Debbie still sponsoring the race and just covering the sign? Wouldn't surprise me, since that's about the same thing for paying for a cake on Friday and then picking up the cake with a white paper instead of green on Saturday.

Well, the argument about it no longer being under their control can be easily countered by pointing them to: https://www.littledebbiestore.com/www (People can buy products from them online on the "sabbath.")

Hec,

I think most cars (or some) not totally sure, because I'm not a Nascar fan, have more than one sponsor. But, yes the logo is covered during Sabbath hours. Oh, brother.

Hec, how fascinating. You say, "Little Debbie, (McKee Bakery) is not a SDA institution. The owner is SDA, but the business is not."

One can only wonder why McKee Bakery is so proud of the fact that they pay 10% of their net profit to the SDA Church then? Are they an "equal opportunity" tither? I wonder if they would be so charitable with an equivalent amount to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Bob Pickle sold me his rebuttal book to Mark Martin's video about the SDA Church on a Friday night. Evidently Bob Pickle, of Pickle Publishing, has no qualms about letting his business earn money for him on the Sabbath -- as long as he is personally "resting". There's a way around everything -- when you are an Adventist.

Gilbert,

Are you saying that every business (store, shop, bakery, doctor's office, lawyer's firm, etc.) that is owned by a SDA who pays tithe is officially a church institution?

Hec, I see what you are saying. Your statement was "Little Debbie, (McKee Bakery) is not a SDA institution. The owner is SDA, but the business is not."

In the sense that its reporting structure does not report in a business sense to the SDA General Conference like Adventist Health Systems does -- no, it would not be owned by the SDA denomination.

Your first statement, "Little Debbie, (McKee Bakery) is not a SDA institution", I would wholeheartedly agree with.

Your second statement, "The owner is SDA, but the business is not" is also technically correct. I know of no equivalent process whereby corporations can get baptized into the SDA Church. In that sense, you are indeed correct.

Last time I checked McKee Bakery was wholly owned by the McKee family. It is their income earning "engine". Since they promote the impression that they believe in the Levitical tithing laws, and corporations were not a functional part of society at that time the closest equivalent that we have are the farmers of that time. Suppose that they had kept part of their profit in their farming business and took part out -- similar to the way that the McKees operate McKee Bakery. Would it have been reasonable for them to say, "I'm an Israelite, but my farm is not, therefore it is exempt"?

In the case of McKee Bakery it too pays tithe into the SDA Church -- a fact that they are very proud of.

I can see your point, and I think you can see mine. :-)

A very wise man once told me when I was still in the Adventist church but seriously questioning it and considering leaving... "You can not claim to be a Seventh Day Adventist if you do not believe everything Ellen White wrote about." Many, many thanks to my B-I-L for opening my eyes, although I know that was not his intention when he told me that. ;)

Hey Paul,

My uncle, the pastor/administrator, the father of my cousin who left the church, is retired, but still preaches and teaches SS. He also says at every opportunity that if you don't believe EGW you are not SDA. I guess that's standard philosophy.

Gilbert,

I get your point. Actually, Christians believe that they and everything that "belongs" to them belongs to Jesus. SDA also believe that they and everything that belong to them belong to SDA church. (I have a hard time saying church). Although one thing is what they say and another thing is what they practice.
