Welcome Nowisee! Love your name! Me too me too!! haha. I can relate to your experience somewhat. What a facade external religion is. Plenty of that to go around in Christianity at large, but way more prevalent in works based isms.. FAF is the best cult I ever joined! =) hehe.. I'm so glad we all think exactly the same and Colleen, Richard, and Dale all tell us what to believe.. Oh brother! | ||

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! It's so wonderful to be part of the body of Christ, huh? And the wonderful freedom to search the Bible to see what it really says...I hadn't believed many of the doctrines for years, but really frightened to attend a Sunday church. When I did attend, the Christian people really didn't understand my conflicts/traumas. That's why this ministry is SO needed! I'm 4th generation & this stuff was in my blood! Plus, you are looked on with more favor if you have just back-slidden than if you actually fellowship on SUNDAY!!! So, I guess I just 'floated' for a long time, not knowing what to do & having nowhere to belong. Praise God for FAF & LAM & people like you! Sparrow, my necklace has the word 'blessed' inscribed on it--from the Psalm: "Blessed is the man whose strength is the Lord". When I tell SDAs it's a 'scripture' necklace, it REALLY confuses them! Again, thanks for the welcome & support..I mean, who else even understands what Nuteena & Rook are? | ||

Welcome Nowisee, It took me a few days to decipher your user name...I guess age has taken it's toll!! My husband and I were at the aforementioned academy for five years. Also, twenty plus years prior to that in the Adventist education system. I wasn't raised SDA, so when we got to an academy and graduation weekend (or should I say marathon) it was surprising how hectic and never ending it was. I mean, I was a proud parent too, but surely I'm not alone in thinking, "I don't really need to see the class march down the isle 5 times do I?" But, I guess it part of the mind-set...whatever it is, it isn't enough, until you're exhausted! We've been out 5-6 years now. I haven't been back to anything SDA...but have been around individuals. It just makes me sad and tired! | ||

Someone on facebook today asked me what FAF stood for. I said.. "Friends Against Fallacies" ha. My daughter works for an auto part store and she showed me a picture of a can of FAF - (Fix a Flat). Now that's a great name for us too.. fix a flat religion fix a flat out lie about the gospel fix a flat lame excuse why you won't honestly test the prophet? Come on Phil and River.. help me out here. =) Yes, Nowisee, having a place where people get you is one of the most wonderful blessings from God!! Glad you are here.. (once again!) Sondra | ||

This is my first post. I have been sitting here at the computer reading all your posts for a couple hours now and so decided to say hello. :-) I am still "officially" on the books as an SDA but do not FEEL SDA in my heart... just sad, angry, and tired feeling... after learning so many of us have been lied to for so long. | ||

I didn't write much a while ago because it was my first post and I was not sure the post would show up,,, didnt want to write out a lot only to have it rejected... LOL I started learning the TRUTH about the church a couple years ago when my oldest son told me he had been baptized in a NON SDA church.... that really hurt me. I started searching on the internet for information to give him to convince him to come back to the SDA church... the first site I found was Mark Martin's . I read some on his site and wanted to know why as a Pastor he had left the church. I downloaded some of his talks about SDA onto my ipod and took a long walk by the beach... My first thoughts were that this just could not be true what he was saying about the SDA church.... Even though I had never really been a big fan of EGW.. I was always told that she NEVER contradicted the Bible and I believed that she probably was a "Prophet of God" But there was a hunger inside me.. I had to find out for sure what really was the truth,,, no matter what it turned out to be. I spent those first few months (at least) not telling anyone about the search I was on, what I was learning,,, and feeling at times so angry.... so betrayed,,, how could OUR church lie to us like that ??? I just could not understand,, and I still have problems understanding.. it makes me so sad, and so angry. those first few months I spent much time alone just crying and depressed over what I was learning, and yet I knew I could not stop searching. I went to a Sunday keeping church (where my son attends with his wife and 3 of my Grandchildren) and I went there looking for fault.... I even gave the Pastor there a book to read ( The Ten Commandments twice removed) to enlighten him. LOL In their church bulletin there was a quote that I have since come to believe was put there just for me that day. "When a man who is honestly mistaken learns truth, he will either quit being mistaken, or he will quit being honest. " At the time I read it, I felt like that was put there for the Pastor of that Sunday keeping church, I quoted it back to him when I gave him the book. Thankfully, he was very gracious.LOL He accepted my book and my comment both with a smile and an invitation to come back. I was not raised SDA but my husband was raised SDA and my Mother in law has always been pretty much the "spiritual leader" of the family. I have always been very close to my MIL and I started talking to her about some of the things I was learning. (over the phone as we live a couple hours drive apart).. She seemed interested, but then an old friend visited her and convinced her that the Lord had led her into the church and she needed to believe in the church and EGW or she would be in danger of being lost.... The next time I tried to share information with her... she just told me that she knows how God led her into the church and that even though we were not going to agree on everything,,, she is happy in the church and believes it to be Gods remnant church.... so in other words dont say anything negative about the church to her anymore... but I a sure I probably will at some point.. LOL | ||

Skeeter, Welcome, though this is late . I'm glad you came out of lurking to post. I, too, started with a nebulous user name, JRT. I posted using male sounding language. But I, too, am female. I just wanted to hide for awhile. This journey is not easy, BUT following Jesus is SO worth it. I recently sent this scripture text to someone: It is much easier to stay in denial of truth than to follow it. Yet, I am constrained to say as Paul did, “But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. Hec, To answer your question ... Rook is a game. Many of us used to play it because it used numbers and 4 different colors. You could play cards - without playing with real cards. Rook tended to be the accepted game of choice on long overnight trips when going to boarding academy, or band trips, or drama club trips, or ... Nowisee, Welcome! Skeeter, I remember you, just barely, but I remember you and thank you for your story. Yes, the leaders of this church has lied to its congregation, it is well documented and it is inexcusable. We all must forgive, but never cover and excuse the lies perpetuated on so many people. The only hope of relief is confrontation of these leaders who lied and keep lying 'for the sake of the church' so that they can keep a lying church alive. Facing the truth is sometimes hard,very hard, but the end of a lie is death and when perpetuated it joins us to the ranks of the father of lies. Lies must be faced up to and rooted out in order for there to be any kind of healing. When the lie is exposed, healing begins. The lies fostered onto this people is so monstrous that I don't believe we yet know the depth of its far reaching consequences and we may never know. It is the undoing of not just one or two, but a people, and this people will stand to accuse them before God and say to them 'you knew, oh why did you not tell us the truth? Our blood is on your hands and your hands will drip with our blood throughout all eternity'. A person who turns away from the truth and refuse to hear it, their hands will drip with the blood of their children. It is time for this people to wake up and be held accountable. We can't afford to languish in lies and heresy in this day and hour, the clock is ticking and the time is short. Yet you hardly ever hear people admit that the church (SDA) has lied to you and betrayed you just as sure as Satan lied to Adam and Eve. The SDA church was founded on lies and refusal to acknowledge the truth and being stubborn, it went down to Hell where it stays today. Yes honesty does cost, it can even cost you your life in a world that thrives on lies, but the price of lies can cost a man his own soul and what good is it too gain the whole world and lose your soul? What is the gain since we are on this earth just for a little while? River | ||

When a man who is honestly mistaken learns truth, he will either quit being mistaken, or he will quit being honest I love this quote! I think it expresses very well what my way out of the church is like... Especially because it all started with a deep desire for honesty. I compared what I was told to be truth with the Truth, and it simply fell down... How to continue with all that then? Skeeter, welcome to the forum. I'm still an official member as well, but it's been several months since the last time I entered a SDA church... And even longer since I could properly consider myself an adventist. I need to write my letter. I plan to start any of these days now that I have already finished all my exams... And the degree! I expect to graduate this month and have been applying for several PhD projects. The best thing is that I do not feel too nervous about all this... Deep inside I know that God has something prepared, here or anywhere else, and since He is the provider, it can not be bad! Nowisee, welcome to the forum as well! And, as far as I know, I never played Rook :-) It's interesting that there might be some differences in the Adventist culture between countries... But in the end it all comes to the same. | ||
