Has anyone done a parallel analysis of SDA fundamental beliefs #1 and #18? What I'm looking for is wrapped up in the paragraph and sentence structure of the words they use to describe the function and claims of each. How do they differ and how do they overlap? If anyone thinks this is a worth while exercise and in case no one has done this already, I'll include copies of both in this post so y'all don't have to go looking for them.....I started a color coding comparison of concepts but I can barely tell a verb from a coma so if some one can do this or start the ball rolling and everyone can chime in.. ---------------------------------------- One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is prophecy. This gift is an identifying mark of the remnant church and was manifested in the ministry of Ellen. G. White . As the Lord's messenger, her writings are a continuing and authoritative source of truth which provide for the church comfort, guidance, instruction, and correction. They also make clear that the Bible is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested. Joel 2:28, 29, Acts 2:14-21, Heb 1:1-3, Rev 12:17, Rev 19:10. ------------------------------------------------ The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. In this Word, God has committed to man the knowledge necessary for salvation. The Holy Scriptures are the infallible revelation of His will. They are the standard of character, the test of experience, the authoritative revealer of doctrines, and the trustworthy record of God's acts in history. Ps 119:105, Prov 30:5, 6, Is 8:20, John 17:17, 1 Thess 2:13, 2 Tim 3:16, 17, Heb 4:12, 2 Pet 1:20, 21. |

Not sure. The last sentence in each are essentially the same. Note the following:
quote:In this Word, God has committed to man the knowledge necessary for salvation.
They affirm that the Scriptures are "necessary for salvation," but they do not affirm that they are "sufficient for salvation." In other words, we need more than the Scriptures, and that is where FB #18 comes in. This is no accidental ommission. Note also:
quote:[Ellen White's writings] also make clear that the Bible is the standard by which all teaching and experience must be tested.
This literaly says SDAs believe the Bible because Ellen White says so. In other words, they are admitting Ellen is above the Bible, and she is the reason they use the Bible. Even when you try your best to hide the truth about who you are, it always ends up coming through somehow. |

Do these two statements make EGW and the Bible equal in authority as it relates to doctrines and truth? EGW:
quote:As the Lord's messenger, her writings are a continuing and authoritative source of truth
Bible:
quote: The Holy Scriptures are the infallible revelation of His will. They are the standard of character, the test of experience, the authoritative revealer of doctrines,
