Actually, the enema as a cure-all was not just an Adventist idea. It was pretty common in Ellen's day. Have you ever read the book, "Back to Eden," by Jethro Kloss. I had that book before I had ever even heard of Adventism. Kloss was a big proponent of the enema. I think the concept makes good sense. A good washing, inside and out, every now and then is good for the constitution. However, I can see how it might have been overemphasized by Adventists, in the same way so many things have been over the years. Honestwitness |

Dear Honestwitness, I disagree. I'm pretty sure that the enema is unconstitutional. My mom had that sucker hanging in the bathroom too. You had to do a whole lot of soul-searching before you decided to tell her that you were too sick to go to school. |

My Mom did more than threaten me with codd liver oil, she forced it down me. I can still remember the rotten taste as she poured a table spoon of that stuff down me while hanging on to my nose If she had threatened to stick something up my rear at the same time I am pretty sure I would have run away much sooner. I can just see the headlines now. MISSING KID DESCRIPTION: Has hand over Butt. |

This thread has made an interesting twist from its original intention? . . . (lol) Would any of you see merit in taking some of the words and/or sermon topics/ and or scripture texts and exploring them further? Like starting a new thread with one of the words mentioned. In the new thread exploring what about that word makes your stomach churn - what was the "lie" behind that word in Adventism and what is the truth that scripture teaches . . . Just a thought . . . I'm willing to kinda organize it on the forum if there is an interest. And we have enough words to keep us going until Christmas!! JRT |

Honestwitness, Yes, did read "Back to Eden" back in the seventies and made myself sick with some of the herbals. No thank you. The only enema I want is to be forever cleared of all remnants of the Adventist disease. Steve |

In addition to some of the words above... "Scapegoat" (although I sure wish it didn't cause a reaction!) Jeremy (Message edited by Jeremy on February 25, 2009) |

Jerermy, Don't know how I missed thinking of the word; 'Scapegoat', since that is a word that will set me off every time. An understanding of our true Scapegoat, Jesus Christ, is what revealed to me that Ellen was a false prophet and central to the story of my escape from her theology. Thank you for bringing it into our "list". Phil |

Phil, you wrote:

Same here! That is what finally convinced me that she was definitely a false prophet! Jeremy |

Jeremy, The piece I did over on Life Assurance Ministries and my story on this website focuses on this. Other SDA unique doctrines, especially where it has to do with Grace, fell by the wayside, but this was the start. When I turned back to the Lord, who I had been running from, we spent two years in the book of Romans. With that as a foundation I have never "looked back". Phil |

It's really neat how so many things in the Old Testament really show Jesus. In the annual "Day of Atonement," the high priest represented Jesus, Who is our High Priest, the "Lord's goat" that died, representing Jesus' death; and the scapegoat which symbolically bore away all sins and Jesus bore all our sins. In my Bible there's a little letter "b" next to the words "...putting them on the head of the goat" in Leviticus 16:21. The little letter "b" refers me to the center column in the Bible, which in turn refers me to Isaiah 53:6. "...the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." |

Hey Colleen, Thanks for posting that link to the sermons on James. I have listened to a couple, and they are pretty good. And relevant to quite a lot of people's current situation! Adrian |

Jeremy, Never thought of "The plan of salvation" . . . I think there is something there that I need to learn or extricate myself from . . . Thanks for writing about that! I'm really interested in taking these words and unpacking them . . . I think it will be helpful for those that are struggling (like me to separate scripture/truth from Adventist deception). Keep adding to this line folks if you think of other words. JRT |
