This morning as I awoke my very favorite hymn, the song 'It Is Well With My Soul' was running through my head. I have a lot of it memorized, but came out & put on my 4Him CD which has it to refresh my memory. As I listened I couldn't catch the words to one of the stanzas so I got my SDA hymnal out to follow along. They only have 3 stanzas & my CD had 4. So I stopped my CD & replayed it until I caught the words & wrote them down. Here they are - verse 2: Though Satan should buffet Though trials should come Let this blessed assurance control And Christ hath regarded My helpless estate And HATH SHED HIS OWN BLOOD For my soul As I listened to those words my whole body was electrified, more than I have ever experienced & I wept deeply. It almost felt like what some people have described as a healing. I wept as I heard those words that had been left out - THE GOSPEL, His SHED BLOOD for helpless sinner-me. It is another confirmation for me that SDAism professes Christ but in fact & practice & theology DENIES CHRIST. They rejected the BLOOD. These are my personal bricks in the wall that God is tearing down to the very foundation & then building it back up again on solid foundation, well built with quality materials & workmanship. EZE 13:10-16 God gave me this scripture in a very personal way over 25 years ago. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ for His blood! |

1john--absolutely true. That verse is amazing, and I've noticed the same thing: Adventism denies Jesus; they reject His blood. I so understand your "brick wall" which God is tearing down and rebuilding from the foundation. It is overwhelming to realize what Jesus has actually done and to know He shed His blood for me and has made me alive because of His blood and His resurrection. There are no words... Colleen |

Adventists are not much into slaughterhouse theology. As vegetarians or vegans, they certainly would not have qualified as the "Israel of God" in Old Testament times. Being a member of the clergy (Levitical priesthood) would have disqualified alot of persons like the Adventists today. Moreover, historic (original) Adventists would have disfellowshipped modern Adventists as heretics. Dennis Fischer |

The same CD had 'There Is a Fountain Filled with Blood' on it & the SDA hymnal has it too and all 6 stanzas with no alterations from the CD (non SDA). So, maybe I can't make a case out of the one song with the missing verse. However God is livening me to my Savior Jesus & He used my favorite hymn to really make an unforgettable impression on me. J9--have you seen the article in a past issue of Proclamation in which we compared the words of hymns in the SDA hymnal with the same hymns with their original words? You can read it in this issue on page 8: http://lifeassuranceministries.org/Proclamation2005_JanFeb.pdf Adventists really DO alter the words, and they have omitted a lot of references to Jesus' blood in different songs. Here is the story of “It Is Well with My Soul” which I quote from Wikipedia:
quote:"It Is Well with My Soul" is a very influential hymn penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss. This hymn was written after several traumatic events in Spafford’s life. The first was the death of his only son in 1871, shortly followed by the great Chicago Fire which ruined him financially (he had been a successful lawyer). Then in 1873, he had planned to travel to Europe with his family on the SS Ville du Havre, but sent the family ahead while he was delayed on business concerning zoning problems following the Great Chicago Fire. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship sank rapidly after a collision with a sailing ship, the Loch Earn, and all four of Spafford's daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, "Saved alone." Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died. Bliss called his tune Ville du Havre, from the name of the stricken vessel.[1] The Spaffords later had three more children, one of whom (a son) died in infancy. In 1881 the Spaffords, including baby Bertha and newborn Grace, set sail for Israel. The Spaffords moved to Jerusalem and helped found a group called the American Colony; its mission was to serve the poor. The colony later became the subject of the Nobel prize winning Jerusalem, by Swedish novelist Selma Lagerlöf.
When I first heard this story I was going throuh dificult times of my own and knowing where Spafford was when he penned these words brought peace to my own soul. Fearless Phil |

That story, Phil, has been very moving to me, too. God has glorified Himself through Spafford's suffering...what a redemption of his past! Colleen |

Colleen, I will check out the article. Phil, I knew the story of the death of his daughters, but none of the rest of the story. Many years ago we had what we thought was a very stressful year - business, church, church school which all affected our marriage. In sharing with some friends who were visiting with us the husband said 'I don't have any answers for you. Maybe it's an opportunity for others to see how a Christian handles adversity.' At the time I kinda thought 'small comfort there' but now realize the wisdom. I have pondered it for years. Sorta like Job's statement 'though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him; versus Mrs Job who said 'curse God & die'. J9 |

Colleen, I checked the article - THAT was an eye opener. What God seems to be doing with me is showing me things, & then confirming it some way. The article confirms what my personal insight was. Your insight that hymns are remembered because the words are attached to songs makes it incredibly important to know the theology & all the more horrific to know what has been done. And it is deliberate. I am amazed what has been covered by Proclamation articles. I know I can read online & download & print, yet it seems that a book could be published with what has been covered & put it all together in one place. Thanks, J9 |

J0--I know what you mean about confirmation. God has done that for me so often; He shows me something, and then, as I'm pondering it, He confirms it unexpectedly from a different source. Amazing how He works! You're right; what they have done is horrific, and it IS deliberate. Colleen |
