Free! Free! Free!

13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
1 Cor 12:13 (KJV)

The Dream

This morning I woke up and spent a few moments praying with my Lord and Savior, I also plugged in my speakers to my MP3 player. Firing it up I pushed play and it continued going into the next teaching of Romans and at some point in time I fell asleep. There was nothing deep about this sleep but the dream I’m had I’m certainly not going to give it back.

The dream started off with its normal weirdness, the kind of dream where you wake up and wonder just what was the start of that dream about. I mean it was daily life meets Dr. Seuss. Watching football on TV, fighting with water guns full of milk, eating cheese hats, you know typical weird dream stuff.

However it took a change when I noticed one of the participants in the dream knock over a cup of grape juice (Welch’s perhaps) on the white tablecloth. At that very moment the entire dream froze around me and I found myself outside.

Walking down a street and along that street was a huge wall, and it had everything on it that I used to like or be drawn to before I became a new creation. It was like the wall was covered with smaller video billboards of all sizes, and playing on them were things I’d long forgotten, and things I wished I could forget.

As a got closer to the end of the wall things got worse and worse, it was like a carnival of sin, a swirling tornado of all kinds of things that I believe represented the chaos that Satan made my life before I was set free. Coming to the end of the wall I met up with an old Adventist friend and we greeted ach other warmly. And I began to share how my life had changed, how I was free, how I was in Christ, how I was no longer under the law, no longer a slave to sin.

We studied for a long time but it seemed to take just a moment and all of a sudden my friend got it. And I could see him being filled with the Holy Spirit! And then he started leaping and jumping for joy- and I couldn’t help but join him. Jumping in circles and thrusting our hands up to Heaven, tears were flowing down our faces.

“I get it! I’m free! I’m free! I’m free!”

“We’re free! Free in Christ! Free to Live without fear! Free and sealed for Eternity!”

Awake

And then I woke up and do you know what the pastor was saying over those speakers.

If the spirit seals you then you are reserved and sealed for Heaven.

30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Eph 4:30 (KJV)
And that brought fresh tears again, real waking tears. Tears of joy, thankfulness and freedom- those that only come from a sprit of joy a spirit of joy overwhelmed with grace.

A New Creation

17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Cor 3:17-18 (KJV)

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Cor 5:17 (KJV)

We are free.

We have liberty.

The Spirit that dwells in us changes us from glory unto glory.

We are redeemed in the sight of the Lord, we are an utterly new creation, we are an adopted Son of the Living God “who was…who is…and is coming…”
Sometimes the Devil may give you pause, the Father of lies so easily sows doubt. In those times sometimes it helps to find new words that express the reality of the new creation that we are.

I wrote the lyrics for Son of God less than a week ago and I’d like to share them with you now.

Son of God (2010)

Standing proud, standing tall-
Feeling I am over all.
Looking good, feeling fine-
Isn’t all the glory mine?

There’s no doubt, I’m filled with pride-
It’s about me I cannot hide.
Please take this heart, Lord wash it out-
For you are what it’s all about.

Chorus

Because it’s not about this man of sod.
Please forgive this useless clod.
It’s all about the paths He trod.
It’s all about the Son of God.

Now above all, I hold this true-
I will devote myself to you.
Though my reflection’s still the same-
I’ve been saved in Jesus’ name.

A new creation’s what I am-
Renewed through the Great I Am.
You came and took away my pride-
Now my Praise I cannot hide.

Chorus

Because it’s not about this man of sod.
Please forgive this useless clod.
It’s all about the paths He trod.
It’s all about the Son of God.

A new creation’s what I am-
Renewed through the Great I Am.
You came and took away my pride-
Now my Praise I cannot hide.

Now above all, I hold this true-
I will devote myself to you.
Though my reflection’s still the same-
I’ve been saved in Jesus’ name.

In Christ,

Ross

Ross, what a dream! I wish the part about you witnessing to an old Adventist friend would become a reality in my life. I am bursting to share but none of my Adventist friends seems interested. They will comment on how happy I am and how God is blessing me but no one wants details. Oh well, I guess I'll just continue to carry my 66 bags of seed around and plant them whenever and wherever I can. It's up to God to do the convicting and converting anyway. I am just a bit anxious for my friends to experience the joy and FREEDOM I have.

Pat

I'm Changed

Mirror, mirror on the wall
I don't recognize me at all.
My sins are washed away
The Son has set me FREE;
Now I mirror Christ
Who covers me.

Ross, thank you for sharing. What you described above captures the fact that when we are made new in Jesus, we really are a completely NEW creation. I used to think of this as sort-of a metaphor; it is not. Being made alive with God's own life through Jesus' blood makes us completely different—almost a new "race" of being.

The reality of God transferring us from the domain of darkness into the kingdom of His beloved Son (Col 1:13) is no metaphor. It is real.

I used to hear the words "new man" and "new person", and it just felt frustrating to me. Now I know it is actual. The freedom, the reality, the "knowing"—it is real, and we can never be the same again.

Hi Ross, I completly understand having dreams. I had three very significant dreams in the first year I that had left. They all were highly symbolic and helped me validate what I believed. I knew they were from God.
