My thoughts this morning at 5:00 a.m.: Although I've been a member of this forum for quite awhile, this is my first post. It is truly amazing how membership in a cult can become a stronghold in a young person's life. As an impressionable eleven year old kid, I was baptized "into" the SDA church and totally immersed in its culture and doctrine. I went to SDA schools, I had SDA friends, I ate SDA foods, I married an SDA woman - but only after my pastor made her renounce her heathen Lutheran background and become baptized "into" the "True Church". To shorten this story, I only broke free from all this many years later when I started questioning things that didn't add up. My point is that today, at 68, I still have remnants of the SDA stronghold that crop up from time to time and mess with my mind. What if? What if they're right? What if EGW was a true prophet? What if the seventh day Sabbath observance really is required? What if "they're" right and I'm wrong? And then I come to my senses and the cross of Christ takes over and the freedom He gave us and I thank Him for leading me out. But yes, cults are strongholds ... especially to an impressionable eleven year old kid. My thoughts this morning. |

I was also raised SDA. I wish so much that I had left SDA sooner. I wish I stopped believing in it when I was much younger. I first started doubting the church because I no longer believed in the Investigative Judgment. It took a while longer for me to stop believing in the Sabbath and the SDA state of the dead was the last to go. It didn't all happen overnight then. After almost 9 years of not believing in Adventism, I don't want to return. |

Randy, Its amazing the stronghold it can have on you, I left after high school and never partook of any type of denomination until about 6 years ago. It amazing after over 30 years of not even being part of the church, when I started to go to church again (a non denominational) all those engrained beliefs started to rear their head. I think because they were so ingrained in us. Just remember God loves you and he sent his only son to redeem you from the law. He fulfilled its righteous requirements, because we were not capable. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith. |
