Why former Adventist cannot change the Adventist church from within At times in life as I read this and that, I come upon a statement that is just pure gold. I read a lot, and I suppose thats why I am a fair hand as a fiction writer. A few years ago, a fellow came on the forum with the claims that he was going to change the Adventist church by staying in, and I knew in my heart instinctively that that was a mistake, yet I didn't form the words as to why I thought that. As a fiction writer I have to form distinct words in order to make a story. I read the below statement in the mans article, and then moved on a couple days, but that little voice within kept pecking away. “You need to write that down.” I had already forgotten some of the statement, and I went searching for the article on Facebook. You know how fast Facebook moves, a post is just a blip. I finally found it, after being aggravated that I didn't write it down in the first place. Here is the statement. “What we didn’t understand, however, was that one cannot transplant the true gospel onto a heretical root. “ That my friend is a deep understanding of why a person cannot expect to change the Adventist church from within. That or any other root that has begun to grow into a false gospel. I don't want to take away from the mans story, which I am sure he would be willing to share, and I am sure he would be willing to share his little pot of gold. | ||

So true. Think; to correct Adventism, one would need to discard or replace the following teachings: - Sabbatarianism, and all the false interpretations of Scripture and twisting of history to support this "ism" - Cease ascribing any value to the writings of EGW and the "pioneers" - Disband the hierarchical organization of the General Conference, liquidate its assets and return them to each congregation - Reject any spiritual benefit of vegetarianism or kashrut (Levitical food laws) or the refraining from drinking tea and coffee (and perhaps the complete taboo on alcohol) - Abandon the idea of a "remnant" based on these and other false doctrines They would need to teach: - 1844 was a total non-event - The term "Sunday keepers" to designate other Christians is a slur non unlike the Jewish term "goy" - God is Sovereign, and as such has no need of justifying himself to his creatures - The church of Christ is organized on the congregational level and not controlled by a billion-dollar corporation This list could go on and on; if those changes were enacted, there would be no "root" left to graft onto. Another analogy is "throw out the bondwoman and her son, for the son of the bondwoman will not be heir with the son of the free woman". No amount of reform would be able to turn an Ishmael into an Isaac. | ||

SOO true! Adventism was never a part of the Christian "root". It sprang up, like a shrub next to the tree of the Church, but with a different root system founded in Arianism and anti-trinitarianism. It has grown next to the church, and its leaves and branches have intertwined with the leaves of the "church tree" so that people often cannot tell them apart. But if you trace the leaves back down their stems to their roots, you will discover which are from the Church root and which are from the Arian shrub next to the church. The root determines the identity of that tree. You can't put the real gospel onto a false root. Colleen | ||
