Can someone point me to articles or threads about this topic and the view that they are two separate Laws versus the view they are the same? |

Essentially, Adventists argue that the "Law of God" was the Ten Commandments. These are supposedly universal and eternal, because they were written by the Finger of God on Tablets of Stone, and stored inside the Ark of the Covenant. But 2 Corinthians 3 calls them the "Ministry of Death written on Stone." By contrast, the "Law of Moses" was temporary and inferior, since it was merely spoken into existence by God, and kept at the side of the Ark of the Covenant. Read Genesis 1. God "spoke" everything that he created into existence. Unlike Michelangelo's painting in the Sistine Chapel, God didn't create anything with his finger. Oh Wait! He "Spoke" Adam into existence (Genesis 1:26); but took a rib out of Adam to make Eve (Genesis 2:21-22). Presumably, he used his finger to remove Adam's rib, since it says nothing about speaking Eve into existence. Using this ridiculous and formalistic Adventist sophistry, we can infer two things: a). Since Adam was merely "spoken" into existence, he is temporary and disposable, just like "The Law of Moses." b). Eve is eternal and universal, since she was created by the Finger of God. Using Adventist sophistry, women should live forever. Since men are merely temporary and ephemeral, they should have died out long ago (like the Law of Moses did). Only women will have eternal life. Eventually, every human being on the planet will be female. |

There's one more resource you might enjoy: page 6 of this PDF of a past issue of Proclamation begins an article by RK McGregor Wright, a Christian apologist and theologian who wrote a detailed article, "What Was Nailed To The Cross?" for an Adventist friend of his. It shows the history of the assumed division of the law and shows how Scripture never teaches a divided law. http://www.lifeassuranceministries.org/Proclamation2005_JulAug.pdf Colleen |

This helped me understand the ONE LAW. This is the first part. The link to the second part is at the bottom of this one. http://asbereansdid.blogspot.ca/2010/10/law-of-moses-law-of-god.html?m=1 |

JD Pascal, I read the articles and I am screaming with laughter......I don't think the authors caught on to this unintentionally hilarious aspect of the "Dual Law" "Law of Moses versus Law of God" "distinction." - Adventists argue that the Ten Commandments were written by the Finger of God on Tablets of Stone and kept INSIDE the Ark of the Covenant. Therefore, they are the eternal and universal "Law of God." - By contrast, the "Book of the Law" was kept next to and OUTSIDE of the Ark of the Covenant. It contains the mere "ceremonial" "Law of Moses." This "Book of the Law" is the first five books of the Bible! How can Adventists claim to be "Bible Only" when they have an extra-biblical tradition that rejects the first five books of the Bible as mere "Book of the Law/Law of Moses?" Are the first five books of the Bible NOT the "word of God?" |

The "Ten Commandments", as a legal unit, is/are the "Old Covenant" (Deut. 5:2). They contain instructions that are both ethical and ritual in nature. Jews have always been able to parse the difference between "Thou shalt not murder" and "Remember the Sabbath". There are moral instructions in the Torah that are intended for all people and for all time. There are also cultic regulations which had an intended people, place, and time in mind. By confusing ethical and ritual laws, Adventists have created their own "circumcision" distinction among Christians; "Sabbath-keepers" and "Sunday-keepers" - one the true followers of God, the others patently false. Jews have never applied the Sabbath law of the Decalogue to non-Jewish people. Those gentiles who wished to believe in, follow, and honour the God of Abraham were discouraged from keeping this command. These were the "God-fearing" gentiles, today called "B'nai Noach" (sons of Noah). The Sabbath observance by Gentile Christians which Adventists require, as an indicator of a believer's allegiance to God, has never been required either by Jews through their history, nor ever by the Christian church. For what it's worth nearly a year later, the referenced blogs are very good. Chris, I was impressed with your responses to FEET. And I was saddened to hear the McGregor Wright passed away in 2012. I would have liked to talk with him. This is a challenging topic (and perhaps it should not be). But I hope that the disagreeing voices are not discouraging to you ANEWMAN. Keep on studying and enjoying the word of God. |
