I don't know about you, but my kids probably thought I was a genius that knew everything. Any technical, or even religious questions they had, they would come to me, and ask me about it. I imagine when they had a question come up they said, “Well...let me ask my dad.”
They were always coming to me with questions because, for one, they knew I wouldn't lie to them.

I was listening to a preacher recently who was supposed to tell us how to hear God speaking to us. He stated that the Bible is not sufficient to hear from God. I'm not sure exactly what he meant by that, but I have a simple and straight forward mind. Not really a genius as my kids might have thought so you kind of need to give it to me in simple words, but the point is, when you say something to me about religion, take it from me, I going straight to my Father to see what he says, and as far as I'm concerned, the bible is him speaking to me. When I go to the bible is is with prayerful reverence. Not that the bible is my father, but the bible is his word. It is sufficient. I don't know about you, but I know how to hear from God.

Thats the problem with Adventism. They got to go and ask Ellen. Me, I go and ask father, cause he knows everything. People think they are hearing from God, and they say that God has told them this or that, and I'm not knocking them, but we are a fallible creature, and the Bible is the only sure way I know to hear from God.

River, thank you for this. As you have indicated, this problem is becoming widespread in even evangelical Christianity.

The Bible actually IS God's word to us. Hebrews 1:1–3 confirms that God's final word to us was spoken through His Son; prophets are no longer needed. And in John 17 Jesus prayed that the Father would sanctify His disciples through His word which is truth, and then He said He also prayed for "those who believe in Me through their word." The word the disciples took to the world was the word of God spoken to them through Jesus Christ and the Old Testament Scriptures. The New Testament is the apostolic legacy God has given us.

We can totally TRUST the Bible to be sufficient. If that were not true, how would be be able to determine truth? Whose claims to truth would we be able to believe?

Thank you for these thoughts!

Thats just it Colleen, we would not be able to determine the truth, and we could be manipulated.

Not that the Holy Spirit is not active in our lives, he is, but if we get away from the Bible as the sure word of truth, you can be sure that soon something will come along with a knock out blow upside our noggins.
