Mysticism is just another doctrinal point, that has been defined and quantified to death. It's been added to the list. Scholasticism does that with everything. |

LOL...I know, but how are we going to talk without words like monophysitism, perichoresis & hesychasm? Maybe we should resort to neuroscience? |

Try this on for size: - Why do the vast majority of Western theologians insist that the Book of Hebrews was NOT written by St. Paul? - And yet, the vast majority of Classical Rhetoricians insist that he DID write it? Mars Hill was was Ground Zero. Patient Zero was Dionysius the Areopagite. It quickly fanned into an epidemic that overran and reduced all of Ancient Greece's defenses. Hebrews was a love letter to the Hellenized Jews, written by a Hellenized Jews. Many western theologians theorize it was written by Philo of Alexandria, because the writer was polished by in-depth training in classical rhetoric. I've seen those blood stains on the columns at the Temple of Aphrodite in Corinth. I will be haunted by those scratched in bloodstains till the day I die. I had to find out who liberated those poor women. I think I know who the carrier of the virus was. (Message edited by Resjudicata on May 22, 2016) (Message edited by Resjudicata on May 22, 2016) |

They're event horizons. Total lack of gravity, lack of entropy, no time, no space. More like flexible, three-dimensional holograms. |

I apologize then. I am so sorry that I caused you to feel that way. That isn't right and I shouldn't have done it. Please forgive me. |

I have no idea why you should apologize, Res. None at all. The Apostle Paul said things that are being interpreted in such a way as to create a great deal of misery for women, right now, today. This is not something that I should bring up on this forum, or with you. |

Anyway, maybe you underestimate the possibilities of neuroscience--it's not all reductive. |

I am aware of and sympathize with the problem of women's ordination that is currently one of the biggest controversies in the Adventist Church. I sympathize with women who are clearly qualified to be ministers. The irony of the entire debate is inescapable. This is after all a cult that was founded and is based on the alleged "visions" of a woman. And I am also aware of the way that Paul has been misused in this entire debate, by those who wish to maintain male privilege and superiority, by way of misusing proof texts. The problem is deeper. There is simply no factual, biblical, historical, or theological basis for Adventism. Neither men nor women should be ministers in such a absurd hoax! I have often remarked that the problems that the bedevil Adventism are fatal. There are many other things that indicate that the pathology is metastasizing. I would predict that within 10 years, there will not be any local Adventist pastors anyway. Adventist Church services will consist of piped-in Doug Batchelor broadcasts. The general conference does not trust local pastors, because they often discover the gospel. In order to control the message and to preserve adventism it is obvious that they simply need to bypass unreliable local pastors, college theologians and the internet with a focused and targeted mass media emphasis. Like everything else about Adventism, the root cause of the problem is the misuse of proof texts With no regard for the context, or for Christian history. And that has led to the misuse of St.Paul. Lastly, Adventism is in Resurrection denial. Acts 17 depicts an oration that was simple, but revolutionary. It rocked ancient Greece to its foundation. And it focused on one thing. Adventism is a system that is designed to obscure that simple message. |

I appreciate what you've said here. I'd like to continue, but it's probably best that I don't. All the best to you, Res, and everyone. |

Well my attacks on The credibility of Dr. Samuele Bacchiochi's have been somewhat vindicated By news out of Africa this morning: http://spectrummagazine.org/article/2016/05/25/updated-southern-africa-indian-ocean-division-president-paul-ratsara-offers-resig Carefully read the article and the comments following it. It appears that the president of the Seventh Day Adventist South African division has admitted that he did not write his own doctoral dissertation. The Scandal began when several officials in the division were caught in the embarrassing fact that their doctoral degrees came from diploma mills. The Scandal has now escalated to indicate much much deeper fraud has been committed. The doctoral dissertation in question appears to have been written by the Adventist Church's Biblical Research Institute, And not by the president of the South African division who was the recipient of the doctorate degree. This is in addition to the fact that the degree was granted by an unaccredited University. That is a nice way of calling it a diploma Mill. It appears that academic fraud is a normal procedure within the highest echelons of the Adventist Church. I have long insisted that there is no factual, theological, biblical, historical or theological basis for the Adventist Church. It is quite possibly the only sizable organization in history that is founded on nothing but lies. I am feeling vindicated this morning regarding our decision to expend the energy and time to translate Dr. Bacchioche's doctoral dissertation, and his oral defense of that dissertation. I am confident in the fact that Adventism's Sabbath Doctrine is based on nothing more sophisticated than ordinary fraud. |

Mjcmcook, With Ted Wilson flying all the way to South Africa to put this fire out; and directly intervening in it to staunch the gushing arterial spray; I believe is solid evidence that the issue of academic fraud runs from top to bottom in the Adventist Administration. I don't believe they have come even close to unearthing the full extent of fraudulent degrees that are probably held by many Adventist administrators. Someone on another thread mention the theory that adventism is a fully criminal organization. I believe that that is why Ted Wilson flew to South Africa to put this fire out. And could not bring himself to force the South African president of the denomination to resign. I believe that Ben Carson's degrees and credentials are completely legitimate. |

Resjudicata~ Most probably Dr.Carson's degrees and credentials are legitimate~ However, the way he has presented himself this campaign season has deceptive overtones to may ear, and what I see in this is 'Adventist' and how successful they are at hiding the Truth about themselves and the 'distinctive doctrines'~ Hiding and not being forthright and taking the consequences~ If I were to guess, I would say Donald Trump does Not know about Dr. Carson's cherished beliefs and if he did he might think twice about keeping him in his political 'tent', so to speak! IMO ONLY! ~mj~ |

Mjcmcook, I hear ya. I do not trust Carson at all. Even if I have no doubt that his degrees are legitimate. The irony should be obvious. Their medical degrees are first-rate from Adventist colleges like Loma Linda. Their fake degrees from diploma Mills that are owned by their ministers and administrators are garbage. And they are supposed to be the moral leaders. It's more important that someone who is merely working on your physical health is legitimate, Then when they are working on your soul. |

Well, Ratsara has resigned from his position as president of his division: http://www.adventistreview.org/church-news/story4047-paul-ratsara-resigns-as-sid-president He's asking for a position as a local pastor in his home state. There's no indication yet whether or not he'll be hired. I'd say he probably will be...but I really don't know. His stated reason for resigning is that he wants to help the church refocus on what is really important and lead a local congregation. The author of the article admits that the resignation emerges from questions about his degree. Colleen |
