An old boy built himself a house out of sticks. When he got saved the good Lord wanted to build him a brand new house out of pure gold. The problem was that the land the stick house sat on was given to the old boy by the Lord himself. The Lord, being good and kind knew that the stick house wasn’t good, it leaked and let the rain through, and the wind blew out the fire, and let the cold blow through the stick house, but the old boy built it himself and it meant much to him. The good Lord said, “Can I have just one stick?” So the old boy gave him just one stick. This went on the whole lifetime of the old boy, and in the end there was just one stick left, and the Lord said, “Could you give me just one stick? The old boy hesitantly, his bones quivering, gave the good Lord that one last stick. The good Lord then built the old boy a house made of Gold with many rooms that was warm in the winter, and cool in the summer. Well…I made that up, but that may be the case, we spend a life time hanging on to a house made of sticks, and the Lord only asked for a stick at a time. I shared this with my church Bible group, but I thought it very apt for former Adventist since formers go through such a hard time of it, the Sabbath usually being the hardest. I hope someone can take the analogy and use it in their own life. |
