Res, "Calculating withholding of critical information from it's membership..." The intentional lies and deception involved in Adventism is one of the things that made me the most angry. When I joined in '76, at the age of 24, I didn't know that there were supposedly "Christian" groups/churches that were based on lies and manipulation. I was so naive about, and actually totally ignorant of, the existence of cults. Ignorance certainly wasn't bliss! Something happened today that brought home once again, the full force of the things that was taken from me because of Adventism. Spiritual criminals...that's how I see it. |

I remember when I was Adventist and people (at least my family) would wonder if Miller was saved or not. It was because he didn't keep the Sabbath. If he kept the Sabbath then they would say that he's probably saved. |

Res Agreed. I do not believe he understood the enormity of consquences for those who became trapped in that doctrine. Still coming to grips with the effect it had on me. Cap |

Res The part that continues amaze me is that God has done everything neccesary for me to be saved. All I have to do is accept it. God is good. Cap |

IMO~ simple as this may sound, William Miller did NOT have the "mental capacity" to fully understand the havoc his message wrought. ~mj~ |

Mjcmcook, I am intrigued by your response. Please set forth your reasoning in more detail. I really want to hear it. I have never alleged that Miller was the sharpest knife in the drawer. He was smart enough to become a military officer and smart enough to be a Baptist Minister. And I DO know, at the very least, that he knew where to look for help. And the commentaries were unanimously against him on the Daniel 8:14 issue. Finally, he was smart enough to see through EGW's shenanigans and rejected EGW, the IJ and the Sabbath and all kinds of nutcase doctrine. So he was certainly smart enough to know the signs that he was probably in deep doo doo. |

Resjudicata~ I am not in the habit of writing such opinions as I did in my above post #1608, Without facts to back them up~ From all I have researched and read about William Miller, What I am going on is just my "gut"~ ~mj~ |

MJ, I'll piggy-back on your post and say that Miller, if he was not born again, did not have the discernment to know the havoc he caused. 1 Cor. 2 says that spiritual things are spiritually discerned, and if he was not able to discern the biblical truth about date-setting and to know the biblical warnings against false teachers and false teaching, he would have been blind to the effect his movement had on people. Xenonlion, yes, I believe you're right about how Adventists analyze Miller's "salvation status". Colleen |

3 Months ago was watching the History Channel on this very subject. It was quite interesting on how they interview people about this. But what got me laughing is where the SDA leadership threaten lawsuits since they refused to explain some of the Bible texts on the warnings of time settings, false propecies, false doctrines and etc... |
