I had never seen the SDA network tv until last week. Now the sattelite tv company I am with gets Hope TV. Last week I watched my first program and possibly my last. It was supposed to be a program about health. Wow! It certainly was not about health at all. The fellow doing the presentation first let the watching audience know the SDA denomination is the only denomination that incorperates health within the gosple and includes health as a firm doctrine. Then it gets even more far out. He said how important it is to stay very healthy so our minds stay sharp and alert because The Holy Spitit communicates with us through the frontal lobes of our brains. Therefore it is very important to not damage or injure our frontal lobes. I listened a bit longer then changed stations. I figured that had to come from EGW. Pretty weird, huh? |

Yes, if you don't have really good health, the Holy Spirit, apparently won't be able to communicate with you! |

I'm with you Foofighter! I am with you. Bring me a double-cheese Pepperoni Pizza, stat! I have no intention of living to be an old, embittered and miserable vegetarian person, gumming a piece of lettuce to death. You and Colleen have taught me the spiritual epiphany of a Wendy's Triple-cheeze with a Oreo Frosty. You go girl! |

Sounds like he's saying that the Holy Spirit communicates with our bodies instead of our spirits! |

He specifically said we have to keep healthy because The Holy Spirit communicates through the frontal lobes. All I could think was about people who have suffered frontal lobe damage or even people who have had parts of their brains removed due to surgery. Are they a no go to God? I remember a lot of SDA's are very uncomfortable around the disabled, especially the mentally challanged. I also remember one aunt who was a complete EGW groopee (if she was still alive she'd be around 120 now) anyway this aunt told me babies who are born with a cleft palate because their mothers committed adultry while pregnant with that child. I was a young teanager when she told me that and I asked my parents why my aunt believed that. They told me Mrs. White said that and that mumbo jumbo was locked in a vault in Wash., D.C. |

I read that the White Estate is going to release all of EGW's writings. I think it's supposed to be in 2015. I don't believe that all of her writings will ever be released, nor do I believe anything they say. |

My dad, who was born in 1909 told me when he was around 12 years old the SDA minister where his family attended mentioned some EGW books and articles and told the congreation if they had any of those in their possesssion the church was recalling them and please bring them to the church the next Sabbath and turn them in. The minister had said there was misprints in the printing but his family who had the books and pamphlets but thus far had never read them finily decided to read them. They read them and then they realized why they were being recalled. There was some really farout stuff in each of the reaclled publications. I remember he told me one was an article about the amalgamation on man and beast. Another was about a very handsome spirit guide that would come into her bedroom. |

Islander, You should read the 1919 Bible Conference transcripts. The leaders of the church had an extraordinarily candid discussion on many of those same issues. And they were still smarting from the forced re-editing and re-publishing of the Great Controversy, which may have happened in 1909 (I am not sure, so if someone knows, please correct me). Actually, they were grappling with FAR more important issues than man/beast amalgamation and Ellen's handsome spirit guide. The leaders of the Church in 1919 were clumsily grappling with the central issues in "The Great Controversy," and tacitly acknowledged that Ellen's "history" was nothing short of being an elaborate fairy tale. Virtually ALL of the historical "facts" she discussed were at best highly-contestable, with probably 50 percent of them being demonstrably outright lies. I have demonstrated in even greater detail these facts in the thread "Letter to half in/half out Adventist." And on such weird conspiracy theory quicksand, rabid Adventist Sabbath fanaticism is based: The elaborate fairy tale of a grassy knoll Papal Sabbath assassination. In 1919, Adventist leadership was fully aware that the Church had no reason to exist absent Ellen's fairy tales. So they "kicked the can down the road" and sealed the transcripts for 50 years. Their jobs and reputation were at stake. |

Mjcmcook, No doubt those Adventist leader's jobs were in the balance in 1919. And to be sure, a lot of money was at stake. Kerry Wynne has summed up the dilemma well when he argued that billions of dollars are at stake for the Adventist church, and it is all based on the proposition that Colossians 2:13-18 does not mean what it says. When I read that 1919 transcript, I am struck by the leader's recognition of the extraordinary gravity of the situation. There was no good solutions. Fresh in their memories must have been the mass suicides, catastrophic economic hardship and severe mental crack-ups that occurred after the failed 1844 prophecies. Imagine pulling the rug out from underneath another 1 million Adventists AGAIN in such a short amount of time. It was easily foreseeable that the death toll could have been half a million as desperate people had their entire reason for existence yanked out from underneath of them. Honestly, I don't know what I would have done in that situation. I would hope that I would have gotten the word out to Adventists somehow that they were living in a dangerous fairy tale. I know that I am doing my best to get word out now. I am not sure that had I been a leader in the church in 1919, that I would have made a different decision than what was made. No matter what decision those leaders reached, the results would have been terrible, horrible and catastrophic. Ellen White had deviously backed them into a corner and left them with no real viable alternatives. People's lives were at stake in 1919. I don't believe that money was the only factor weighing on the minds of those Adventist leaders. I believe that a few of them like AG Daniels commenced with some doctrinal reform, but was immediately undercut and thrown out of office by the conservatives. It took and takes great courage for Adventist employees to publicly stand for the truth. I admire those that had that courage, since that wasn't my story. The only courageous thing my sister and I did was to vanish and not leave a forwarding address. Over the next 33 years, I doubt that I spent 2 hours thinking about Adventism or its doctrines. All I knew was that I felt terrible and believed that leaving the whole situation behind would cause me to feel better. Which indeed was the case, but still..... I just don't know what I would have done in 1919. I hope I would have done the right thing. But I am not 100 percent sure that I would have. |

Resjudicata, you say this was in 1919. My dad would have been 10 that year. I once asked him if he'd ever been personally acquainted with anyone famous. His answer was yes, Ellen White and Wild Bill Cody. I still think it is cool that my dad knew Wild Bill Cody. |

Islander, You made be LOL. That sounds SO MUCH like my grandpa. His "claim to fame" was being 5 minutes late once to meet Ellen White in person. He got to the train station, just as her train was leaving. Oh, and once he shook the hand of the State's governor! When he completely lost his mind near the end of his 99 years of life here on earth, he told me that "missing Ellen White" story probably 10 times in one day. It must have worn some sort of groove. I think had he touched the hem of her dress, it would have given his life so much more meaning. Alas, he shook off his mortal coil a mere plebe among spiritual giants. |

I have written the following on this Forum before, but because of the 'Ellen G. White' sharing...My Mother's only brother married Ellen's great granddaughter! Both my uncle and his wife died in 2013 (ages 89 and 90). In my childhood home..."Ellen was Queen" ! ~mj~ |

These stories abut "Ellen Encounters" are howlingly funny. Truly, when I was growing up in a rabid LGT household, Ellen was worshiped. I didn't mean "venerated" either. I meant "worshiped." Such a cultural mess that was. My sister and I have done a lot of soul searching about the whole mess, analyzing the types of character defects we struggle with, that developed as a result of those skewed priorities. Grandiosity, dishonesty, self-righteousness, self-pity....Ellen worship induces all kinds of messy and maudlin tendencies. Dear God: Just Today, help me to eliminate every doctrine but the Resurrection. The unvarnished, un-analyzed, "un-doctrined" "unthinking" "mindless" "childish" Resurrection that Adventists correctly accuse of being "all that is left," once Ellen is stripped, de-analyzed and demolished down to nothing more than a very sinful and egotistical woman. Help me to accept their critique as a veiled, backhanded compliment (albeit 100 percent accurate) instead of raising my defensive hackles. And my intellectual and analytical armor. Healing does not result from analysis, but acceptance of the only Real Power, once and for all delivered. For in the Resurrection is the life. Nothing else does that. Nothing else can. There is nothing else. Amen. |

Mjcmcook, It is amazing just how simple it is! I have been closely studying the First and Second Century Christians, and it is remarkable how they approached and accepted the Gospel. Vast majorities of them either did not have access to scriptures, or were illiterate. Or both. They believed the simplest version of the Gospel story you could possibly imagine (even simpler than "Jesus loves me, this I know..."), usually in the form of a second- or third-hand memory of a sermon by one or a combination of several of the Apostles. They ate the bread and drank the wine. The Holy Spirit came to them. They were transformed. 5,000 or 10,000 of them were baptized in one day, after listening to one sermon from one Apostle, or some assistant repeating one sermon from one Apostle. Eventually someone, when they had some spare time, hurriedly-scribbled the Gospels from memory, or copied the tattered remains of the Epistles. Some of the most selfless, loving and bravest human beings that have walked on this earth were converted to Jesus Christ based on writings that we reject as non-canonical. The Gospels of Barnabas and Thomas led to the conversions of thousands, probably because hardly anyone could read them anyway. They ignored the "Gnostic" parts that we strongly condemn, because they could not understand such concepts anyway. In fact, St.Thomas left Jerusalem in AD 52, sailed to India and never had contact with his fellow Apostles for the remainder of his life. The Christians in India only had the Gospel according to Thomas (complete with stories of flying snakes covered with jewels) for 100's of years. Many a soldier, in the process of beheading a Christian as per orders, dropped the sword and were themselves beheaded along with the original Christian for receiving Jesus Christ. And the ones that beheaded THEM often received Christ a few minutes later, and passed on this strange Gospel to their executioners, who passed it on to their superiors as the beheadings and conversions and tortures worked themselves up through the ranks. Sometimes the Emperor was forced to order the mass executions of their best and most loyal officers, which eventually resulted in the first conversion of an emperor. The executioners sword was often as effective as a tattered page out of one of the Gospels in effectuating conversion. The early Christians spent no time after baptism thinking of theology, or rules and regulations. They thought nothing of preserving their lives, or avoiding suffering for Jesus Christ. They were viciously slaughtered wholesale and willingly submitted themselves to the most relentless and hideous torture ever seen on the face of the earth. They never thought about sin or perfection. They had no "prophets" or "theologians" or "Bible Scholars." And the Mighty Roman Empire eventually buckled and collapsed at their feet, out of sheer exhaustion. Resjudicata~ The church I attend (see my profile page) we study Scripture 'chapter by chapter/verse by verse'. We are at present studying through 1Corinthians. Today, we were in chapter 15 verses 29-34. All of chapter 15 really, is the "Resurrection" chapter! It is beyond Exciting! I qualify this by saying, it is, IF you are being taught by the HOLY SPIRIT ! One of the praise songs we sang today I am providing a youtube link~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvRKhzqC5lE If you are in the area where I attend church, please visit! Sunday services, 9:00, and 11:00 AM. ~mj~ |
