Growing up SDA I never, yes, never heard about the destruction of the temple in 70 AD. Every Christian church I have attended, excluding various cultish types put a lot of emphasis on this event and I just do not understand the significance. Please explain. Thanks. Any books or hard copy resources would be appriciated to please mention titles and authors. |

Islander, The significance is that Jesus foretold of the coming destruction of the temple, Matt. 24:1-8. When this happened in 70 AD the Jews lost their homeland. Read the rest of Matt. Chapter 24. In order for the rest of Jesus’ prophecy to come true the Jews needed to be able to return to their homeland because Jesus' prophecy has to do with a third temple that couldn’t be built unless they did return. Ellen White said they would never return to their homeland but they did and their nation was reborn in 1948. Adventism doesn’t want to talk about something that contradicts Ellen White. This is a new study for me. I know most of Christianity puts a big significance on this so I am just now deciding to get a grasp on undetstanding it. Thanks, Phil. |

Oh, I think I get it ( sort of ).EGW said her dribble BEFOFE 1948 so the SDA's don't talk about this because it PROVES EGW to be a fraud. Right? |

Actually, I believe I do know what adventists believe! In 1Timothy 4:1, we read~"The Spirit expressly says in the 'latter times', some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits." Adventists have done this by embracing the false teachings of Ellen G. White. It is proven over and over again that she is a prevaricator. She claimed she received her "messages" from her 'angel' of light. In 1Corinthians 11:14 it says the following, "satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light." What Ellen G. White wrote cannot hold up to Biblical scrutiny. I believe it is wise to follow the admonition written in Galatians 1:8, "But even if we, (the apostles) or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed." Ellen G. White preached "another gospel"~! ~mj~ |

And apparently her "angel guide" was not a "Heavenly" angel but one sent from darkness. |

Adventists also do not like dealing with the Destruction of the Second Temple for an obvious reason: The Jewish/Christians of Jerusalem were quickly dwarfed by the explosion of pagan/Christian converts. After the destruction of the Temple, Jerusalem quickly became a brackish backwater of the Christian "revolution." Greek and Roman Pagan Christians never kept the Sabbath as a result of the AD 50 Decree from the Council of Jerusalem (Acts 15): Greeks were already horrified and repulsed by both circumcision (ugly scarring of the beautiful body) and the Sabbath (lazy and unproductive). Under the Syriac-Greek occupation, both Sabbath Keeping and circumcision was punished with a Death Sentence in occupied Judea. While the Jewish Christians kept the Sabbath as more of a cultural relic than anything else until the Bar Kokhba revolt in 135 AD; Sabbath Keeping was outlawed throughout the Roman Empire as punishment for the continual revolts. And Jews were dispersed throughout the Roman Empire. The Destruction of the Second Temple finished the task started by the Council of Jerusalem: Sabbath Keeping became a non-issue for Gentile Christians. And the First and Second Century Christians were - absolutely contrary to EGW's "History" - openly hostile to Sabbath Keeping. The three major Jewish revolts featured what Temple Judaism believed to be the Messiah as the instigator. Christianity already had its Messiah. (Message edited by Resjudicata on June 29, 2014) |

The following are direct quotes from the White Estate website: http://www.whiteestate.org/issues/faq-unus.html# "Ellen G. White wrote in 1851 that "old Jerusalem never would be built up." ..... "Less than a year later, August 1851, she wrote with greater emphasis "that Old Jerusalem never would be built up; and that Satan was doing his utmost to lead the minds of the children of the Lord into these things now, in the gathering time, to keep them from throwing their whole interest into the present work of the Lord, and to cause them to neglect the necessary preparation for the day of the Lord." .... "How did Ellen White's readers understand this statement? That there was no light in the popular "age-to-come" teaching, that there is no Biblical significance in the Jews' returning to Palestine, that Jerusalem will never be rebuilt in a future millennial period." It appears that Ellen White was wrong on a multitude of levels. The establishment of the modern State of Israel could not possibly have more "biblical significance" to "the Jews." |

No "biblical significance in the Jews returning to Palestine?" Who you going to believe? John F. Walvoord says: "Of the many peculiar phenomena which characterize the present generation, few events can claim equal significance as far as biblical prophecy is concerned with that of the return of Israel to their land. It constitutes a preparation for the end of the age, the setting for the coming of the Lord for His church, and the fulfillment of Israel's prophetic destiny." http://www.bibleprophecyblog.com/2013/11/the-significance-of-modern-israel.html# http://www.bibleguidance.co.za/Engarticles/Rapconference/4%20Israelinprophecy.htm# Or, we could cut right to the chase and call it for what it is: careflly-disguised Anti-Semitism: http://www.raptureforums.com/FeaturedCommentary/seventhdayadventistanticatholicandantisemitic.cfm (Message edited by Resjudicata on June 29, 2014) |

Here's another false prophecy by Ellen White, regarding the State of Israel: "I saw that God had forsaken the Jews as a nation; yet there was a portion of them who would be enabled to tear the veil from their hearts. Some will yet see that prophecy has been fulfilled concerning them, and they will receive Jesus as the Saviour of the world, and see the great sin of their nation in rejecting Jesus, and crucifying him. Individuals among the Jews will be converted; but as a nation they are forever forsaken of God." THAT'S probably the reason that Adventists prefer to ignore the Destruction of the Temple and the role of the Modern State of Israel in Biblical Prophecy. |
