A short story: Last Sunday morning we had an adventure which shows how God protects and uplifts us in many ways beyond anything we can be aware of. It was early and Jan was out watering her garden. I was inside shaving when the power went out. I finished shaving in the dark and shut off the main breaker to the house as it isn’t a good idea to have the power come back on without making sure of such things as there being water in the water heater. Jan didn’t know there was a problem until she ran out of water as we are on a well. About a half hour or so later I was near our computers when I witnessed the cable modem erupt into flames. At the same time, out in the yard, Jan screamed that there was an explosion and fire out front. Much later in the day the power company finally determined that the main underground power shorted out close enough to a metal fence to send 6000 volts, the line power before it is stepped down at a transformer. Because all utilities have a common ground the voltage then traveled, via the ground, to the cable modem. Because there is a gate between us and our neighbor, it arced out at the gate latch causing the explosion and fire Jan witnessed. The praise is that if anyone happened to have been touching the fence at the time of the short they could have been killed. Nobody was hurt. Last night I finally got this computer back online. The total repair cost to me was $81.50 which I will not bother the power company with. Our underground power cable is really old and the power company is planning to replace the whole thing which is a quarter mile long. Fearless Phil | ||

Dear Fearless Phil~ I was wondering where you "were"~! Since I noticed you had not signed on for several days, I missed you! GOD's hand of protection was surely over both you and Jan! Oh, Thank God you and Jan are alive and can share your story. We all need to take safety precautions but when it's underground I guess we won't know there was a problem until disaster strikes. | ||
