While I was driving the other day, I was listening to the radio coverage of the UCF-South Carolina football game in Orlando. I normally wouldn't post anything about a college football game, except for what I heard the announcers say about their broadcast booth. In radio, like in so much else in our commercialistic society, an organization can sponsor the coverage of a sporting event. In turn, the announcers reference the sponsor somehow during the show. In this case, what took me back was that the announcers said they were, "Coming to you from the Florida Hospital Broadcast Booth." For those of you who don't know, Florida Hospital is owned by the Adventist Health Systems that is based in Orlando. It is even said that EGW herself picked out the land where the main hospital campus sits. And they were sponsoring a college football broadcast on the Sabbath. I couldn't help but relish the hypocrisy. You all are going to get the mark of the beast for working on the Sabbath, but its okay for us advertise our business on the Sabbath. I should add here that, since it is college football coverage, this advertising takes place almost exclusively on Saturday, except for a couple games a year that take place on Thursday nights. Even if they literally sponsored a box at the stadium, UCF's Brighthouse Networks Stadium is used principally for college football. So there's no way to argue this was an accidental or incidental thing. (Message edited by Bskillet on October 02, 2013) (Message edited by Bskillet on October 02, 2013) |

Bskillet, very interesting. My goodness...the hypocrisy is unending! It reminds me of our visiting Kettering Medical Center in Dayton, OH, in 2009. Kettering, of course, is an Adventist stronghold. When we walked in, there was a coffee concession in the waiting room, and another one run by the same outside company near the cafeteria. For sure that sort of compromise does not show up at LLUMC, but believe me, it shows up in other, more covert ways (such as coffee pots hidden out of sight on the nursing units...) It's always a bit jarring. (Message edited by Colleentinker on October 02, 2013) |

Didn't SDA-owned McKee Corp. order the Little Debbie-sponsored NASCAR race car covered up on Saturday so as not to advertise Little Debbies on the Sabbath? Or, how about the ordinary practice of SDA churches renting their facilities to "Sunday-keeping" churches?! I guess they may as well make a little income off the apostates before the mark of the beast comes down... Don't even get me started on abortion in SDA hospitals! <sigh> This message brought to you by Stripples. "If it tastes like sinning but it's not, it's Stripples". |
