Friends, I wanted to share this with you, if you haven't seen it already.
It's my story of discovering how I was indoctrinated into an Adventist worldview through children's "Bible" story books and SS lessons. My schooling in SDA schools was limited and I can't say I read EGW myself, yet, her message formed my understanding.

I invite you to share with your friends who want their kids to know the Bible, yet take their kids to Sabbath School every week. Start a conversation with them.

I have a list a mile long with other examples and hope to share them on the Proclamation Blog in the future.

Having gone to SDA schools all my life - 1st grade through graduation from LLU - I know I was thinking and acting as a true adventist. Thank God for using my 12 step program to clear my brain of most of adventism.

I remembered those stories, it was those books and comparing them to the holy bible after leaving the church made me realize that indoctrination at babyhood is devious almost cult like. It is a shame that parents do not rely on the bible instead they rely on the church version of what the bible means by the use of the writings of Ellen GOD White.

This sound familiar, this is almost like pre-reformation during the middle ages were Catholic Priests were the only ones allowed to understand the bible and the masses were not even allowed to own the bible on pain of death.

Excellent! You very clearly exposed why we are, even later in life, still at times coming across "Ellen beliefs" that we thought were Biblical.

Thank you for doing this! You could actually do a series & not exhaust the material.

Have you seen the (Junior) Guide "Ellen White" special addition that I picked up a few months ago @ the ABC? It gives the version of the "Great Controversy" vision for 10-14 year olds, etc. Creepy art of EW in bed writing what an angel is telling her. One of the accounts in the magazine is of a young teen girl who finally read "Desire of Ages" & how it was the book that made the most impact on her, brought her to tears, etc. She had never read anything so powerful! (See, the Bible just didn't do it for her!)

Thank you again, Delina...

In my professional experience with adventist elementary schools,
in particular, one of the main reasons parents spend enormous amounts of money
to enroll their children in these schools, is so they will be 'indoctrinated' with these 'stories',
that are taught within the framework of the 'Bible Curriculum'!

It is so full of 'egw' there is hardly any room left for GOD~ More is the pity. :-(

Very good work! The blurring of EGW and the Bible is what has stuck with me the longest. My husband and I will still occasionally say some Biblical detail and then pause and wonder out loud, "Is that Ellen White or the Bible?" We have to look it up...

@Lyrical, hence another reason for me not to bring up religion in a conversation, because often times will bring up a idea and then wonder if that opinion was Bible or Ellen White.

If we been indoctrinated into sda religion often times it is very hard to deprogram or wean ourselves off of Ellen White.

For someone like me who has a Social Disability that indoctrination process is difficult to almost impossible to get rid of (at least that what my Psychologist (non-sda) tells me). So tend to be extra careful and take a note pad when going into a group settings.

My family had a collection of The Bible Story books. We got them after I begged for them and sent in a card from the sample in the dentist's office. I remember a man coming to our house. He got us to by The Desire of Ages and one other book with covers that looked like the Bible story books.

I LOVED them - and we weren't Adventists. (I came in through a prophecy seminar as an adult.) I do believe that all the reading we did from those books set me up to accept the stuff I heard at the seminar. (I know too, that those books weren't cheap!)

I remember 15 years ago the pastors wife trying to sell me the Bible study books. They were extremely expensive. She made me feel at the time like I was being less than faithful and insufficient in meeting my child's needs by not going in debt to buy these books. I am thankful now that I didn't. Thank you for sharing this.

Thalarian, Yes it's hard to deprogram ourselves and it takes time, but I believe through the power of the Holy Spirit and by reading Scripture only, you will come out victorious on the other side!
