In talking to SDAs about Sabbath, I've noticed that all of them have the same storyline about the importance and significance of it. It is really tough to get past these ideas to discuss the Sabbath objectively and honestly looking only to the Bible for support. This inspired me to compile all of these ideas into a quiz. A Sabbath Quiz... You can take it here. http://qz4.me/13sI1Gc Tell me how you score. It's super easy...no trick questions. |

Well, I scored 87%. I had difficulty with a couple of questions which I thought depended on one's definition of law. I also wondered about the response "I don't believe it & I don't care if its in the Bible or not". Its not a response I would choose because I should care if its in the Bible. But that's just my humble opinion. It is interesting just how many ideas about the Sabbath are out there. Thanks for the quiz. It was a fun thing to do on a night when I can't sleep. |

Yeah, JRT! All of the statements are quoted or paraphrased from SDA materials --children's books, Desire of Ages, Revelation Seminar materials, Mark Finley studies and the 28 Fundamental Beliefs book. It's less of a quiz than a tool to make a point. |

100% "For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin." Romans 3:20. Why can't Adventists get this? Oh, I know, they have "another gospel" and another source of "truth." |

I too only scored 87%. I didn't take the time to look up scripture, I just went off the top of my head. I wonder how many never beens ever give a thought to the Saturday sabbath? I know that before I met my first Adventist that Saturday sabbath was zero on my radar. |

Most Adventists also err in thinking that Christians "keep" Sunday. The Sabbath isn't a day in the New Covenant. The Sabbath is a PERSON - Jesus! People who think that the day was simply changed from one day to another are simply Adventists-waiting-to-happen! |

Doesn't the word Sabbath mean rest? |

Yes, it does. Jesus is our REST! Colossians 2:16-17 says that Jesus is the substance of the Sabbath shadows. Matthew 11:28 says: "Come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." Also the rest that Jesus invites us into is "today" - not a particular day of the week - but "today." (Hebrews 4:7) And just because I happen to be writing this on Saturday doesn't mean that verse won't be true if someone happens to read it on Sunday or Monday. It's today no matter what day of the week one reads the verse on. "Today" is everyday! The people of Israel in Joshua's time kept the Sabbath day diligently (if they didn't, they were executed), but they never entered God's Rest - Hebrews 3 & 4. |

I was taught the Sabbath truth will only be a deciding factor in God's judgement to those who know the Sabbath truth. To the ignorant Sunday keepers and non Christians it won't matter to God because He bbc will wink on their ignorance and they will be judged by His Book of Nature, which is equally as valid as the Bible. But, us who knew The Truth from birth could never get out of it, we could never claim ignorance. |

I felt a similar way. When I was an Adventist "witnessing" to a Christian, telling them about the Sabbath "truth," I'd sometimes feel sorry for them, knowing that if they became an Adventist, the heavy burden of the Sabbath would extinguish the light in their eyes. But I thought that I should tell them about the Sabbath "truth" anyway. (I don't know if any of those I "witnessed" to became Adventists or not. I hope not.) Of course I kept that thought (of the Sabbath being a burden) buried deep down. If someone had asked me what I thought of the Sabbath back then, I probably would have said something like: "how wonderful to have a day to rest!" |
