Today an adventist friend sent me a link to an article that states La Sierra University accepted money from a known abortionist/gambler for a building project on their campus. This is the first I had heard about this~What about all of you? Check out the link for more interesting details. http://www.lifesitenews.com/mobile/news/seventh-day-adventist-university-names-new-economics-centre-after-abortioni ~mj~ |

Yes Mjm, I've seen this story. So shocking...runs an abortion mill, in my opinion. He also owns a race track. In one article he was interviewed from "his favorite Friday night perch" at the racetrack. Somehow, I don't think the regular Joe in an SDA church could continue in fellowship if he owned a little neighborhood bar/gambling joint, and hung out there on Friday nights. I guess it isn't the type of business, if you are a multimillionaire and contribute mightily to the church/university, at least at La Sierra. Every time I see this story it amazes me all over again. Such a lack of principles and unbelievable hypocrisy. And if the other wasn't bad enough...his comments about opening a free abortion clinic in Mexico because of the influx of Hispanic immigrants!!! This guy is a real piece of work! |

I was dismayed when I first read the article~ I graduated many many years ago from La Sierra University, (at this time it was known as LLU, Liberal Arts Campus) I was still very much an adventist. My children also took their under graduate classes at La Sierra, before transferring to the Loma Linda campus. Other members of my family attended and graduated from La Sierra and Loma Linda. One of the many doctrines of the adventsit church that is a cornerstone in the "pillars of the church," is that humans do not have an immaterial spirit. This doctrine, among others, is the reason I renounced the church~ Since this teaching is still the churches stance~ I should not be at all surprised that they seem to have no problem taking money from anyone! Even someone who has no problem with aborting babies from the womb~ ~mj~ (Message edited by mjcmcook on June 07, 2013) |

I had read the article some weeks back. I believe from just what I have read that Adventists hold the matter of Abortion 'loosely'. I think they the organization as a whole is prepared to go which ever way the political wind blows and they were dismayed when the Washington post did their article on the Adventist churches noticeable absence at the gathering in Washington on Roe vs. Wade. They want to keep their image as a protestant christian organization, which it is not, it is a cult by every standard as we understand the word. If they cannot hold their reputation as just another protestant christian organization it makes it more difficult for them to proselytize other christian churches and to steal converts away from normal protestant churches, which is the purpose of their seminars. Since abortion has become such a hot button issue, I look for them to change their stance to pro-life in the months and years ahead if that becomes convenient for them unless the greed for profits overrule that convenience. Unless and until, the adventist church disavows 'ellen's' teaching on the unbibical idea that human's do not have an immaterial spirit, their acceptance of "pro-choice" will not change. ~mj~ |

Yeah, SDAs think that until a baby actually breathes air into his or her lungs, that he or she isn't actually a person. They get that because the word "Spirit" comes from the Greek word pneuma. In the beginning Greek class I took awhile back, I didn't learn all that much, but I learned that basic little thing; that both the word translated Spirit in Holy Spirit and the spirit in man is the word pneuma. Since Ellen White says that the Holy Spirit is a Person, they believe that He's God instead of believing He's just a force or something. But by believing that, they're contradicting themselves. They cannot have it both ways. (The world seems to believe the same thing because if air is found in the lungs of an aborted baby the abortion doctor is brought up on murder charges.) Here's the official SDA stance on abortion. Notice how it says that it's okay in cases of a defective baby or in a case of a pregnancy resulting from rape; down in the fourth paragraph. http://www.adventist.org/beliefs/guidelines/main-guide1.html |
