An SDA sister of mine and I often write back and forth. We've been talking about the scapegoat, but now she's referring more to the sanctuary. Today she wrote; quote: "Dear Dianne, The Sanctuary on earth is a shadow of the one in heaven. The earthly one was cleaned once a year, while the heavenly one just cleaned once at the end of the 2300 days or years. And he said to me, "For two thousand three hundred days; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed." Dan. 8:14. This was the heavenly not the earthly. Hebrews 13:11 11 For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp." I wrote back: "Dear _____ Yes, the high priest entered the Most Holy place each YEAR. Here's a passage that shows the fulfillment of the santuary being purified... "Thus it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own" Hebrews 9:23-25 So JESUS purified the sanctuary with His OWN BLOOD! Don't get hung up on the words "holy places" because Jesus ENTERED the Most Holy Place. See here; Leviticus 16:2 says: "and the Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat that is on the ark, so that he may not die. For I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat." I know that Jesus having ENTERED THE MOST HOLY PLACE ALREADY before Hebrews was written contradicts your beliefs also, because you believe that He waited until 1844. Love, Dianne" Next time, I should point out to her just what Daniel 8:14 refered to! |

Wow! My sister wrote back already! She said, quote: "Dear Dianne, I agree that Jesus purified the sanctuary with His own blood. We just disagree about Daniel, but I don’t want to get into that again for now." I wrote back: "Dear _____, The 2300 days are literal days, not years! What happened is that an evil tyrant called Antiochus persecuted the Jews from September 6, 171 B.C. to December 25, 165 B.C. That was an exact period of time and JESUS CELEBRATED IT. It's called the "Feast of Lights" or "Feast of Dedication" and also called "Hannukkah." Here it is! "At that time the Feast of Dedication took place at Jerusalem. It was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the colonnade of Solomon." John 10:22-23 That was also the Maccabean revolt which would take place during the 2,300 days. Remember how the heathens defiled the temple and when the Jews got it back and were able to cleanse it again, they only had enough oil for one day, but it burned for eight days until they could get some more made. Love, Dianne" (Message edited by Asurprise on April 17, 2013) |

The point that they utterly fail to grasp is that the people that claim the fulfillment of that prophecy, the jews, were the very ones that were also observing the evening and morning sacrifices spoken of. Yet, SDA's presume to know better 2000-odd years later. As though the ones observing the evening and morning had no idea how often they occurred or what 2300 of them would add up to. Unbelievable. (Actually, the whole SDA interpretation is unbelievable, not just this part.) |

Hi Asurprise, Great responses to your sister. FWIW, the Hebrew in Daniel 8:14 literally translates as "2300 evenings and mornings" (not days). This seems to be a direct answer to the question of how long the regular sacrifices would be stopped. So the twice daily sacrifices were stopped for 2300 evenings and mornings or 1,150 days (about 3 years). This would line up with history pretty nicely. |
