EARTH made new OR HEAVEN as our final destination ? There was always a lot of emphasis in Adventism on the "Earth made new" teaching... this earth destroyed and made over again as it was originally intended to be before sin entered. I have only found a couple of places in the Bible where this is even hinted at and when reading the texts in context and comparing to other passages relating to "Heaven" it seems to make more sense that Heaven will be our final home and not this world made over. Thoughts ? |

"Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God." Revelation 21:1-3 |

Any others ? Does "new earth" mean earth as we think of earth.... or could "earth" refer to a place of habitation that may or not be "earth" ? Could it possibly mean a new "habitation" which is with God and remains in Heaven ? |

Skeeter, you're right; Scripture does not refer to an "earth made new". Adventism is all about "Eden restored", but that concept is NEVER mentioned in Scripture. The Bible does say that the heavens and the earth will melt with fervent heat (2 Peter 3:12), and God will make a new heaven and a new earth. That does not imply "remade". It is NEW. What that will look like...we're not told. But it is called "earth". So it will be our eternal place of habitation. The earth was made for humans. Colleen |
