I don't know if anyone caught this on NBC's Today Show this week, but it's an interview with Academy Award winning director Paul Haggis ("Million Dollar Baby" and "Crash"). He was a member of the Church of Scientology for 34 years and is speaking out on his recent exit from the church. It's a very interesting interview as this guy articulated cultic bondage so well. I couldn't help but think about what the SDA church (and others) draw people in with an "us against the world" mentality. http://video.fr.ca.msn.com/watch/video/paul-haggis-leaving-scientology-was-treasonous/1tj4g5y9p Leigh Anne |

L. Ron Hubbard was a prolific 'science-fiction' writer before he 'founded' the Church(cult) of Scientology! There are also questions about his mental stability! Does this remind anyone at all of the prolific writer, 'egw'? she said she received her writings from an 'angel of light'~ IMO~ both of these people used their influence in a disastrous way to ruin the spiritual lives of gullible people~ those most effected, being ones that believed them, and did not 'search the Scriptures' to find out what was, 'Truth' not, fiction! No wonder this man Paul Haggis is disavowing the teachings of this cult; Also, another Hollywood actor, Katie Holmes(recently divorced from actor, Tom Cruise) denounced Scientology. In her print interviews, she shared that one of her main concerns was for their six year old daughter; According to Paul Haggis, her fear is well founded, on the 'first-hand' evidence regarding the way in which small children are treated within the church(cult). In her divorce stipulations, their daughter is not allowed to participate in any of the church(cult) activities. As I recall, Katie also made public, that before she filed for divorce from Tom, she and her attorneys planned her 'escape' for a year! Where I come from, this sounds like 'Fear' to me! I am glad that she and her daughter made it 'out'! ~mj~ |

After WWII, Hubbard moved into a boarding house in Pasadena, CA, owned by a man named Jack Whiteside Parsons. Parsons was into the occult and a devotee of Aleister Crowley (who was a black magician and founder of a school of esoteric thought called Thelema). Parsons had been inducted into Crowley's Ordo Templi Orientis' Agape Lodge, a mystical society in LA and then became it's leader. While living in Parson's home, Hubbard told many fantastic stories about himself, and he became a buddy with Parsons. Parsons introduced Hubbard to the secrets of Thelema, and Hubbard was already familiar with Crowley's writings. Living at the parsonage, Hubbard would talk about his desire to start his own religion. Hubbard convinced Parson's to go into business with him, but ended up stealing both Parson's money and his mistress. L. Ron Hubbard initially tried to market his science-of-the-mind techniques as psychological tools and tried to be accepted within the mental healtlh community. His assessment tools were not seen as valid (no research to back them up) and rejected by the American Psychological Association. He became angry with the fields of psychology/psychiatry. Hubbard turned his writings/tools into Dianetics and eventually did end up going in the direction of creating his own religion for the tax breaks and the advantage of lack of regulations/requirements in marketing his psychological tools. I read this information in the book called Inside Scientolgy by Janet Reitman. It is a fascinating read. It was after reading this book that I wondered if there were similar books written about the history of EGW and SDA. It was the catalyst of my quest to study myself out of Adventism. |
