Considering that communion is the sign of the new covenant, then it should be taken only by those who are part of the covenant, correct? Thoughts? |

The pastor at my church warns the congregation before communion that's it's dangerous for those who are not believers to partake. (I think that's from 1st Corinthians 11:27) |

To answer your question with a question, Why would a non-Christian want to even partake in Communion? |

So, since I was not a believer while I was an Adventist, was it a sin to take communion when I was an Adventist? |

Eternal joy, overall, I had to repent of my Adventism and ask God to put His Spirit into the place in my heart where Adventism had been. To an Adventist, communion is not quite the same as to a true believer. It represents the incomplete atonement of Jesus, the down-payment and the death-as-example that we believed He died. It did not represent the finished work of Jesus to us as Adventists, because we didn't know it was COMPLETE. It's kinda like Mormon communion. Yes, they have communion, too...but they use water instead of wine. It doesn't represent the same thing to a Mormon that it does to a Christian. So I woud say that God knew your heart—and it is your repentance from Adventism and your surrender of your life and heart to Him that He wants. Adventist communion is part of the Adventism from which you are repenting. Colleen |

If its not the communion of believers, then it is not communion in this context. |

When we celebrate communion at church, the pastor always says the table is not the table of Trinity Church but of the Lord Jesus. He states that if one has not experienced knowing Jesus, the proper response should be to receive Him instead of receiving His symbols, but those who know Him can take communion to remember Him.
