I've heard it recommended here that rewriting scripture is a powerful technique to help one understand and remember scripture. I plan to try this but was wondering if retyping scripture would be as effective as handwriting it. I much prefer to type over writing (much easier on my right hand). Before I start, I was hoping for thoughts on the effectiveness of typing v. writing. |

You know Goodday, the bottom line is getting Scripture into one's head. When we have to consider every word, as in writing or memorizing, etc., we are forced to see the prepositions, verb tenses, etc etc., and these impact our understanding in a huge way. If typing is physically better for you, by all means, type! God is not limited in the ways He can implant His word into our minds. Jesus said, "Sanctify them in Your truth; Your word is truth" (Jn. 17:17). The point of copying Scripture is to implant the word more consciously into our minds. It is God's word that renews our minds. If you ask God to teach you what He knows you need to know, He will. I think you will find this exercise to be surprising and rewarding. I think you heard Nowisee at the FAF conference tell how copying Daniel (of all things!) calmed her and amazed her and blessed her far beyond anything she thought it could. Praying continually for you, Colleen |

Goodday2u, I absolutely agree with Colleen. It isn't the method that blesses us, it is the focus on the word. I have been journaling scripture for a little while and I love it. It is amazing what I have seen that I never did before when reading. It also shifts my thinking completely over to the Lord. I will often open my scripture journal when I am feeling down or overwhelmed just to force my thoughts on better things. I have never, ever, walked away regretting it either! It is an amazing "restart button" for me. For me, I have decided to write it out simply because I write slower than I type and spend more time considering the words. However, I am not distracted by pain in my hand. I don't think the method of copying scripture is important. I just think getting it down is good. I would encourage you to type slowly though, rather than race through it. Just to give yourself time to process what is being said. What do you think you will begin with? Nikki |

Thanks Colleen and Nikki, I would have to be careful not to race through the process if I choose typing. Maybe I'll try it both ways and see. I'll let you know what I learn. I was thinking about starting with Romans or perhaps Hebrews. 1 John would be a good choice also, as we study it together here on the forum. I'll be on vacation for awhile and will be out of touch with the internet. Maybe I'll find a lovely journal to begin writing some scripture one some of those days. Thanks. |
