Directions to SDA members in evangelizing non-SDAs, from the "Personal Ministries Handbook" on the official SDA GC & SS Personal Ministries website: pg. 34: "Adventists use terms that other people do not understand. Do not use terms like "the pen of inspiration", etc. When people decide to take Bible studies, or join baptismal classes, there will be opportunity to teach them this vocabulary." pg. 34: The members are encouraged to tell potential new members, "We can know that we have salvation now." (Absolute contradiction of the teachings of the SDA prophet.) pg. 42: "Don't get into theological discussions after the study. Unless you adhere to systematic presentation of the topics, people will begin to share personal opinions instead of searching for Bible truth. This can lead to misunderstandings, bits and pieces of information with no conclusions, and other difficulties." pg. 42: "Dr. K.S. Wiggins, an Adventist psychologist and evangelist, offers the following advice regarding the order of topics, for Bible studies and for public evangelism presentations. "It has long been the practice of Seventh-day Adventist evangelists to arrange their topics in logical order. The only thing wrong with this is that the human mind does not work logically. MUCH BETTER RESULTS ARE OBTAINED IF THE TOPICS ARE ARRANGED IN A PSYCHOLOGICAL ORDER."--Soul Winning Made Easy, pg. 37 (What did the apostles EVER do without this book?) pg. 42: Tells the workers to present the distinctive teachings of Adventism at the end, after the student has made a commitment to follow Jesus. pg. 43: Shows a "typical sequence". In a list of 28 topics to be presented, "Jesus saves those who are lost" is # 21! The IJ beats that out (it's # 10). #11--The Law and the Gospel #12--The Sabbath #13--The Sabbath in the NT #14--Origins of Sunday observance #17. The state of the dead #18--Spiritism #19--The great controversy between Christ and satan #20--The seal of God and the mark of the beast. pg. 49: "Helping people decide to accept the truths they have been studying and do something about them is often the most difficult part of soul winning. Leading people to decide something that may be unpopular, out of step with society, or threatening to their financial well-being is not easy. It is a science, and a vital part of soul winning." "Be agreeable." "Be alert." pg. 50: "Ask for a decision on the basis of a choice between two alternatives, both of which are positive and possible, for example:'We are planning a baptism on the 15th and one on the 29th. Which would be better for you?' pg. 70: "Important follow-up activities--Make provision for follow-up meetings or Bible classes. Interests who are not yet baptized WILL BE HARVESTED BY OTHER DENOMINATIONS or return to their previous lifestyles if no one follows through with them." pg. 70: "New converts need two kinds of training: Doctrinal understanding & How to Practice an Adventist lifestyle. pg. 70 "New members need to make at least 6 new friends within 6 months of joining he church or they will probably drop out." pg. 70: "If a member is absent for 3 Sabbaths in a row, something is wrong." pg. 70: "Assign spiritual guardians to newly baptized members." pg. 70: "Introduce new members to Adventist literature and encourage them to buy and read the Spirit of Prophecy books." and lastly--pg. 54: "Ask questions such as: ' In John 14:15, Jesus says to you, 'If you love Me, keep My commandments'. Now that you see that one of His commandments is to keep the seventh day of the week holy, you are going to start keeping it because you love Him, aren't you?" | ||

Ohhhhhhh.... when I was an SDA, I would have been in favor of "leading newcomers along" like that. Now looking back, I can see the manipulative "studies" that both ask the questions and answer them; and the verses taken out of context! Ugggg! | ||

When I was an sda in VA a young girl who was married was baptized sda. She was the wife of a man in the Navy. He did not like her being baptized. I was asked to be her friends. I was her friend and she trusted me, but she really loved her husband and left adventism not long after she was baptized. All I remember saying was pray about it. That was God telling me what to say. Looking back, I am sooooooooo thankful for that. Awesome God was and still is in control. Diana | ||

My closest friend and I met when our oldest children were in Cradle Roll, almost 40 years ago. She stopped trying to be SDA around 35 years ago. She still talks about how she never heard of EGW, or the distinctives until several weeks after being a baptized member of SDA. She learned "the Sabbath truth and the state of the dead truth" in her pre-SDA indoctrination studies. Her "Bible" instructor told her God wanted her to live a heslthy lifestyle but she had been told nothing about being a Vegetarian. She signed an agreement that she'd give up beer. The entire thing is just loony. | ||

Nowisee, the longer I am out, the worse this seems and the more upset it makes me. The gospel is simple and clear. Adventism is not even a tenable option unless one manipulates (good word!) the potential convert. It DEPENDS upon not being presented in a LOGICAL order. If it were logical, the discrepancies would become obvious. Their proselytizing leaves out man's hopeless depravity and the need for a Substitute. It draws in converts on the basis of fear and special knowledge—a deadly and powerful combination. Fear drives one toward the Sabbath (the blasphemous "seal of God" that replaces the Holy Spirit as the Seal), and special knowledge makes one feel superior while going for the poison. Colleen |
