While driving earlier today I passed the Somonian Seventh-day Adventist Church. On the front of the church is a big banner that says,"Revival Meetings Here Nightly" and it gives the time. On the Mainland the SDA churches don't use the term revival. They bill their meetings as "Revelation Seminar", etc. So, I am curious if the sign on the local Somonian SDA.church is intended to draw that particular ethnic group as they would be most likly to respond to the term or if the greater SDA leadership has decided to begin once again to use the term "revival"? |

I don't know if it's aimed at a particular ethnic group as I'm not familiar with the group, but I know that the phrase "Revival Meeting" seems much more palatable than "Revelation Seminar." People might shy away from the latter but for the former they may show up once and then get reeled in. |

I rarely see SDA churches having a "revival". It looks like they are trying something new. I understand that in some cultures, church is a big deal. I have talked to Africans and Caribbean people who say they went to church a lot. They had Friday night services, then spent all day in church on Saturdays. I am thinking the Pacific Islanders do the same. |

Yes. I think it's a cultural issue. I one time decided to check out a local SDA service kout here, around 13-14 years ago. I actually Sat through the entire service, never heard a Nobles verse quoted. The only reference to Jesus was at the end If each prayer when they ended the prayer "in the name.of the Father, the Son & lithe Holy Spirit, amen" and a song that had the name Jesus and one more brief mention of Him. The sermon was straight from the Great Controversy and Joe Crews. Then afterwards a lady at the potluck sat across from me, wagged her finger at me and said,."It's not right to come to our church just for the food." I mentioned this to a local man I knew was SDA but sent to the SDA church in the big city and not the local jungle church and he told me to stay away from that jungle SDA church because of my ethnic origin I will have a bad experience, which I did. But, its the same denominaton. Where's the comorodarie? |

Punababe808, I feel truly sorry for people like that, I think they just mostly want community or business ties and are spiritually dead. Remember that in at least one case, Jesus cast a demon out of a person sitting in the congregation at a synagogue(or maybe it was the temple, definitely one of those) I have seen an older lady who desired to do what was right, and devoted two hours every morning to private praise and worship, be DEFINITELY demon possessed, by the grace of God He had me fasting at the time, which is a highly statistical improbability for me.... anyway, she was NOT herself, she sauntered in like the queen of sheba and plopped down at the kitchen table while I was leaning against a counter, and she said, her "Ohhh, I KNOW YOU." me "You do? Well God knows me too." me "What kind of things do you know?" her "Ohhh wouldn't YOU like to know *sneer*" me "God knows everything about me, everything." her "Oh He most certainly does." me "And everything is covered by the Blood of Jesus Christ" her "BS!" (she said the actual word, very militantly.) me "Jesus Christ forgives all sins." her "BS!" Then, barely above my breath, I said something short but to the point like, "Whatever is coming against this woman I command it to leave in Jesus name" I was caught off guard this whole time, I think I was on Holy Spirit autopilot or something, I did not fully realize until after the fact what was happening, anyway after I commanded it to leave she shook her head in a dazed way, and looked around in a "what's going on" sort of manner. She didn't say a word about what had just transpired, and I didn't either, but there was a third person there that witnessed the event. I don't believe she was aware AT ALL of what had happened. I thought it was totally a personal issue coming against her, at the time, but I'm warming up quickly to the idea that maybe it was adventism's influence, extolling the virtues of Sabbath instead of Jesus, preaching about a guy getting stoned to death for gathering sticks on Sabbath in the OT when someone didn't agree with her views on the Sabbath, etc. |

I think "revival" is not a term the North American Adventists generally use, at least not on "the mainland". I think their use of 'Revelation Seminars" or "Prophecy Seminars" is more culturally "relevant" from their point of view. Colleen |

I'm sorry, my point of sharing that testimony, other than it being a witness to the awesome power in the name of Jesus Christ, was just to say, Punababe808 don't let the wagging finger lady or her ilk get you down, they very well may not be themselves. |
