"...to the children of God his most frequent and favorite relationship is that of accuser. According to ancient oriental usage, an accuser was a judicial adversary in constant attendance upon the court of a monarch as the appointed agent of punishment. This accuser received his emoluments (new word for me!) from the spoils of criminals; hence, he rejoiced in their condemnation. He was also an official spy. His prerogative allowed him to lay temptation and snares in the way of those culprits whom he hoped afterward to see punished for his own aggrandizement.

With this historical meaning of the word accuser in mind, we perceive the marvelous suitableness of some of Paul's sayings. As for instance: 'To whom ye forgive anything...forgave I it in the person of Christ, lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices' IICor. 2:11."

This was so interesting and helpful to me.

Wow, Nowisee--that is so interesting. It does show us the motivation driving Satan...

“Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Rom 8:1

Obviously Satan cannot influence God so his tactic is to create uncertainty

We ask:

“what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:30

God says:

"Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” Acts 16:31

(Satan whispers) then we ask:

Yes BUT, that’s too simple, what else must I DO?

And we end up with hundreds of denominations, all touting their additional DOs, their dis-stink-tives

Satan Wins (?)

Jonvil,

I was with you up until your blanket statement. (I don't know, maybe I misunderstood your intention?) I wouldn't want only one 'denomination', nor would I want 'no' denominations. After all, each church in the NT was it's own denomination culturally, wouldn't you say? Not all "denominations tout their additional DO's". However I do agree with part of your point that satan whispers "what else must I do". From that comes cults and false prophets.

You're correct, denomination is too specific, I should have used 'groups'.

In the SDA's investigative judgment doctrine, Jesus takes the role of the accuser, looking over our lives to find every unconfessed and/or unconquered sin so that He can defend His law by refusing us entry into heaven.
