they will no-doubt refute that she is a prophet, but they (SDAs) wont question the validity of EGW. from a Time magazine article. http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1967301,00.html A Prophetess Offers Hope for Quake-Ravaged Haitians By Jessica Desvarieux / Port-au-Prince People in Port-au-Prince call Junon Brutus "Soeur Junon" (Sister Junon), describing her as a prophet and a messenger from God. Her crowning moment thus far came on Feb. 12, when Brutus, 42, stepped center stage to face thousands of arms waving in unison, reminiscent of the pulsating energy during Carnival performances. The gathering was not a celebration but a lamentation marking the one-month anniversary of Haiti's earthquake — a disaster that many in Haiti believe Brutus predicted. But she thinks her country can rise from its travails. "God always has a plan for his children. God has a special plan for us," says Brutus, whose Haitian Creole is sometimes interrupted with a word in English. Brutus, who is Haitian American, officially resides in Orlando, Fla. She left Haiti when she was 11 years old and says she returned to deliver God's message. In January 2007, she says, she heard the voice of God reveal to her that a disaster would hit Haiti and that she was to warn the Haitian people. She then began to aggressively try to speak with Haitian President René Préval. She says she was dismissed repeatedly. "He wouldn't see me," Brutus tells TIME. "No one believed me, and they thought I was a loony." (See exclusive pictures from Haiti's devastating earthquake.) But with the estimated 200,000-plus dead, the government and the people of Haiti are now taking her seriously. To mark the quake's one-month anniversary, she asked for three days of fasting, which she said God wanted Haitians to complete as an offering of repentance. The Haitian government accepted her request and decided to add an extra day of holiday during a time typically filled with the bustling Compas music of Carnival. And the man who once turned her away came to pay homage. In a starch-white shirt with bodyguards enveloping him, Préval arrived at Champs de Mars and shared the stage with Brutus. He addressed the thousands of camp settlers and participants and said he shared the Haitian people's personal loss and grief. "It's not a President who's speaking before you, but a father who has lost a child," said Préval. "On Jan. 12, I was walking on bodies in the streets, and I didn't have words to speak." Indeed, Préval's stunned, almost speechless reaction to the earthquake brought much criticism. (See the destruction in Haiti from the air.) With intermittent applause after his statement, Préval's rare address to the people was followed by a prayer from Brutus. It was the sort of blessing the President needs during a time when small protests against the government are sprouting on the streets with chants of "Down with Préval." "If [former President Jean-Bertrand] Aristide were here, he would have listened to her the first time she brought the message. The country would not be in the state that it is now," says Toussaint Makenzine, 29, who sits outside a rainbow-colored dollhouse-like home with two pictures of Aristide, who lives in exile in South Africa, nailed above the front door. But politics is not what interests Brutus, a married mother of three. She says she holds no ill will toward Préval and hopes that this time the government will listen to what she calls "God's plan for Haiti." She has a notebook full of plans and drawings of a new Haiti, all created through what she calls "intelligent design." Brutus, a Seventh-Day Adventist who works in Miami as a businesswoman, says she has to wait for God's permission to reveal the plans in detail. "Haiti will be a light in the world. What needs to be done, not a human can do it," she says. "There will be seven years of abundance, and Haiti will be a world wonder." Brutus says this message is not just for Haitians today but for their descendants as well, as the diaspora will end and Haitians will return to rebuild their nation. (See the Haitian Prime Minister's recovery plan.) Of course, there are skeptics who regard Brutus as a fraud. But she denies any worldly ambitions, insisting she is not associated with any specific organization or political party but is merely a servant of God. Judging by her growing name recognition on the streets of Port-au-Prince, the Haitian masses are being drawn to her message. "Soeur Junon is a prophet. When she says something, you feel it," says Damis Yves, 28. Since the one-month anniversary, Brutus has been making daily rounds of comforting the living. Haitian Evangelical pastor Enesse Joseph, host of a religious program on Radio Lumière, says Brutus continues to offer hope to her listeners as well as herself. "She's a visionary. She's bringing a message that I don't have to verify," says Joseph. "She came with the word of God. So why shouldn't I believe?" Even self-proclaimed non-religious people like Wudeluene Voltaire, 25, are being caught up in the fervor. Voltaire says she decided to participate in the three days of fasting because she wanted God's forgiveness. Dressed in a neat bright-pink top, she points to the concrete slab where she sleeps and says she still has hope for a better Haiti because of Brutus' message. "I believe God sent her on a mission," says Voltaire. "Haiti will get better with her plan." |

There goes the neighborhood. I'm sad for everyone who believes in her and not in Him when every island is moved out of its place. I expect that "Pastor" Jan Marcussen's next SDA headline eschatology "news"letter will be all over this story. This reminds me of something I once heard a predatory insurance executive say. "Out of chaos comes opportunity." |

How many earthquakes must those poor people endure. Although it's well known that the SDA church will exert its presence wherever possible shortly after the earthquake the mother of an acquaintance of mine flew down as part of ADRA. My heart sank when he told me. But praise God there are many Christians down there to stand in the gap Enoch |

I pray that the innocents will not be caught up in adventism. Adventist will be there to catch those who are enthusiastic about her. But then, maybe some people need to go through it so they can appreciate the Gospel even more. I pray for the Haitians who listen to her. Diana L |

Oh, my goodness. Why am I not surprised? Sigh. Speaking of earthquakes, have you heard that Chile had an 8.8 late this evening followed by an 8.3 earthquake within the same hour? Jesus' words come to mind...earthquakes in diverse places... Colleen |

Did you notice what the "Evangelical" pastor said?
quote:"She's a visionary. She's bringing a message that I don't have to verify," says Joseph. "She came with the word of God. So why shouldn't I believe?"

Sounds to me like he is easy picking for the sdas. He is not even testing her according to what the Bible says. I can imagine he thinks of sdas as another evangelical church because he knows nothing of what they really believe. Lets pray for all of them. Diana L |

After these people have been starving for a month, and not getting enough food, she tells them that they have to fast for three days?! As "an offering of repentance" to buy "God's" forgiveness?!?! It sounds just like Ellen White. What an evil woman, modeling her exploitation after the wicked EGW. Meanwhile, it looks like she is a wealthy businesswoman who lives in Florida. She doesn't seem to actually care about the people of Haiti, she just wants to make a name for herself. Again, it all sounds just like EGW. Also, her "predicting" the earthquake after it happened sounds just like Ellen, who also claimed she had a vision about the San Francisco earthquake before it happened--but didn't say anything until after! LOL. Notice they have no witnesses confirming that Brutus (LOL) did indeed "predict" it--not that what she claims would even really be a "prophecy." Again, just more of a general prediction of disaster, like EGW. Jeremy (Message edited by Jeremy on February 27, 2010) |

Jeremy, good catch with the "message I don't have to verify" phrase! This directly contradicts our duty as believers to "test the spirits". |

This all just makes me so so SAD! My entire experience in Adventisim I have been told that some disaster is around the corner. I was told the world would end with Y2K, then in 2002 around the anniversary of 9/11, and the most recent one was by the end of 2006 there would be a disaser that would usher in the end times (by a laotian prophet named Soo, has anyone heard about her?). No, wait, there was another one. The economic down turn was predicted and shortly after that the Sunday law would be put in effect. Though I have not heard of any new dooms-day prediction lately, I attribute that to my not associating with them anymore. When I was growing up I used to wonder whether or not I would have kids or be married, or experience any of my adult life before it all came to a bloody end. There is SO much fear in Adventisim! I remember praying that God would give me the courage in the end of times to take a bullet for the Sabbath, and that He would be very clear when and where He wanted me to run to the mountains. I spent ADULT years worrying about this because CA is so heavily populated I was sure we couldn't hide in these mountains and we would need to pray about moving out of socal! Back to this "prophet", given the sinful state of the world, I bet I could say, "SOME kind of natural disaster WILL strike Europe before the end of 2012" and something will surely happen to prove I am a "prophet" (eye roll). These things happen and its a safe bet to say that they will happen again in the future. I mean really, what on earth could the people have done about an impending earthquake?? Is she saying they could have repented and stopped it from happening? Ok, Im done venting... |

Free2dance, Welcome, it is good to meet you and to hear your concerns and non-concerns. While we could very well be in 'the end times' the bible has spoken about, it should be a time we anticipate with peace in our hearts because this present evil world will soon come to an end. Hiding in the mountains is within a prophecy concerning Israel and not intended for the rest of God's people living all around the world. God is in control and knowing this should bring peace into our hearts....not fear. Fear is really a product of adding 'works' to the gospel message and knowing we will never meet the perfect demands of the law. The New Covenant brings us a far better vision of our future. Phil, We moved to the mountains over 30 years ago in part because we wanted to live in the mountains and enjoyed that lifestyle. (would still like to ) BUT it was also because of the SDA bred fear that we needed to get into the mountains because the "hard times" would be coming soon and we would need a place of escape and less chance of persecution in the mountains than there would be in the cities... goodness, when I think back on that now,, at the time we thought we were doing it with "Faith" when it was REALLY a LACK of faith. We were learning to depend on OURSELVES for our earthly survival instead of depending on Jesus. When that time comes that we as Christians (not as SDA but as Christians) are in danger of being "persecuted" we have to have FAITH that it is Gods will He will rain down manna from Heaven for us if that is His will. HE will provide for us if it is HIS will. That is what I was recently trying to explain to my SDA son in law who doesnt talk to me about it much, but to my daughter who he tells they have to be prepared for the "hard times" and his family has a ranch waaay back in the mountains where they are gardening and farming, which is fine... I have told him that if they ENJOY growing their own food, and it is certainly fresher and dont have to worry about pesticides, etc... BUT do it because they WANT to do it, because they enjoy it NOT because they think they will have to depend on that plot of ground to survive... because God WILL take care of His children ! I told him that if times get that hard, then neighbors will be coming in and stealing their food so they can survive anyway, and what will they do ,, as Christians ? Turn those people away and say this is only for THEIR survival ?? And if so,,, there would be those who would come in and take it anyway and kill them if they have to to get it. He just sat there and didnt say a word... :-( Skeeter |

Skeeter, I am with you in that I live in the country on acreage with ‘the woods’ all around me. My reason is simple, I like this kind of life and it is not because I am hiding ‘from the world’. I grew up, in logging camps, and never have felt comfortable in urban environments. I have all the farming and survival skills touted as needed by Adventist survivalist, none of which can equal simply being safe in the arms of my Savior. Even in ‘end times’, when they will surely be upon us, the role of Christians is to reach out to the sick and the lost with the gospel message of Jesus Christ. There is no way to do this by hiding somewhere. Fearless Phil |

Jesus said that in the end, deception would be so strong, that if possible even the elect would be decieved. A lot of Adventists and others may very well be decieved by this Adventist lady in Haiti. On another thread, an article from William Johnsson in "Adventist World" was discussing a Muslim leader who had three "visions" which said, in part: "Adventists already are God's people so do not try to convert them. Instead, work with them." I found it significant, that this Muslim leader said nothing about Jesus telling him "follow me," in a dream/vision. Many Muslims are receiving actual visions of Jesus and in every one that I've read; Jesus tells them to "follow Me" or something that shows the Muslim that Jesus is God and is to be followed. Right away they realize that Christianity is right and they are converted. In this article though (in Adventist World), this Muslim's visions were only about Adventism - not about Jesus. If I'm not mistaken, Muslims already believe that Jesus will come back as a sort of deputy to the "Mahdi" or "third imam" (something like that.) Their "Jesus" is supposed to help conquer the world for Islam and their "Jesus" isn't God. Maybe Satan is starting to get all the false religions together. |

Does anyone really believe that this "Prophet" in Haiti will make an impression on Adventists throughout the world ? Or will it stay mostly in Haiti and die out as quickly as she came in ? I just find it hard to believe that MOST SDA's, especially those in the United States would EVER accept ANYONE as a "Prophet" other than Ellen White. I just cannot fathom it ever happening. Maybe some are feeling a little more self righteous because someone is claiming to be getting messages from God that confirms SDA as THE true church... But I would think that MOST ,, instead of being flattered by it would instead be very cautious and even feeling NEGATIVE about such news for fear of being seen as really WIERD by the world at large if they were ever to accept this woman or anyone else as a "prophet" to SDA's. Personally I just cant see it happening... They are too focused on Ellen to let anyone else come in and take any of the spotlight off of her.(JMO) Francie |

It is my opinion that the official SDA organization will distance itself from this prophet. They will come up with some explanation of why this is an individual thing and not tied to the organization. Hec |

Welcome, also, Free2dance! Glad to have you here! Asurprise, that article by William Johnsson is so disturbing, esp. where he admits he prefers to deny the name of Christ (prefers not to introduce himself to Muslims as a Christian, but as an Adventist--those nasty old pork-eating, Israel loving Christians!) Ugh! Years ago, we 'fled to the mountains' because we thought the 'time of trouble' was starting. Even there, in a small SDA community, God managed to reach us with His gospel! |

Welcome Free2dance! I just love your name. Ballroom dancing was the first new thing I learned to do when I left. I wanted to dance all my life. The closest I could get to it was roller skating in the academy gym on Sunday nights and the Grand Marches on occasional weekend nights. I was scoweled at whenever I tapped my foot to the academy band music. Now I bounce and sway to the praise music in church. I dance in the LL area. Maybe we know each other. |
