Hey y'all, This has been on my mind lately. There have been a few instances in EGW's writings where she describes what Jesus or the Father were thinking/feeling. My FIL read some verses from (I think) Desire of Ages on Thanksgiving and I couldn't believe some of the things Ellen presumed Jesus was thinking. Of course, no one noticed. The words are flowery and beautiful and they make sense in a way. However I asked my hubby afterward "who else but God would know what was on Jesus's mind?" None of the great Biblical prophets could tell you. Basically they would repeat what God would tell them. Would someone provide me with Ellen's biggest offenders on this subject? Since I'm not familiar with her writings I wouldn't know where to look. I'd like to share them w/ my husband. Thanks! Leigh Anne | ||

Hmmm--good observation, Leigh Anne! I don't have sources at my fingertips, but for sure you're right. Ellen seemed to be full of insights into God's thoughts... Sigh... Colleen | ||

When I was an SDA I figured Ellen was told these things about Jesus or the Father in vision. The only one that comes to mind is a classic one that many SDA's somehow find comforting. It was posted recently as a comment on a friend's Facebook status from Desire of Ages, that "Jesus could not see past the portals of the tomb." SDA's love that quote because it's supposed to mean that Jesus didn't even know for certain He would be raised from the dead, so it shows how deep His love is, that He was willing to give up His life forever, not just for 3 days. There's almost nothing that bugs me more among SDA discussions than to see them treat EGW statements like verses and talk about how inspiring and helpful they are. I couldn't resist posting back, and provided about 6 or 7 verses where Jesus plainly stated well before the crucifixion exactly what was going to happen including rising after 3 days. And I pointed out there is not one verse stating the opposite, so that statement is a direct contradiction to Scripture. Then there was an unbelievable response posted, attempting to reconcile the statements. Jesus intellectually knew He would rise again, but He didn't emotionally know that. Since every human has experienced that phenomenon, obviously Jesus did too in that situation even though there are no verses that state that. Okay. I'll stick with the Bible only and not rationalize and speculate to make a false prophet's statements line up with the Bible. | ||
