woke up with this in my head this morning.. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul. It is well, with my soul, It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul. My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought! My sin, not in part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more, Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! It is well, with my soul, It is well, with my soul, It is well, it is well, with my soul. |

Well, I just listened to the sermon. It's as you all say—disingenuous and unbiblical. I noticed that when he took readers to Daniel 8:14 to make his point about the IJ and the sanctuary cleansing, he conveniently (as they always do) did not read the visions' interpretation in the verses immediately following. His appeal at the end, which included a call, was an appeal to give up sin. It was not an appeal to come to Jesus (of course). He called also for students to commit themselves to SDA "work" and evangelism, asking them to commit to going as student missionaries, even saying No one will go tomorrow, but are you willing "to make yourself willing" to commit to go? He asked if they were willing to make themselves willing. Interestingly, Randy Roberts at LLUC is giving a series right now entitled "Why I Am A Seventh-day Adventist". His sermon this past weekend was about hell and the great controversy. He said that "God" was the third reason (third sermon in the series) he's SDA. He made the point that the Adventist view of hell is so much more accurate and pictures a much more gracious and merciful God than the evangelical view. He said the SDA doctrine of hell alone, given it's presentation of God, was sufficient reason for him to be SDA. He actually ended his sermon with a long quote from Ellen describing the end of the "great controversy". You have to understand that Randy tends to be very "evangelical" sounding and habitually would not quote Ellen from the pulpit. I was wondering if the church has asked pastors to present doctrinal sermons (they're required to preach doctrines every so often) this month, or this fall--or what might be motivating these two significant churches to be doing this at the same time. I do suspect there's a retrenching going on, a renewed zeal to teach the doctrines and establish "the truth" to the SDA members. And they KNOW they can't do that without Ellen. In some capacity, whether overt or covert, they have to rely on Ellen. Colleen |

quote:He says.. "Calvary didn't do away with sin." and the evidence that what the text plainly says can't be true.. is that we still sin.
This comes from the fact that SDAs do not understand the difference between sin, i.e. a heart of hostility towards God, and sins, which are individual actions that are wrong. Col 1:21-22 says we were hostile in mind to God, but because of the Cross, we have been reconciled to Him. That is what is meant by Jesus putting away sin. It is the same as saying we have had our consciences cleansed from dead works, which is also stated in Hebrews 9. |

It sometimes boggles my mind what people believe, but then I have to stop and remember that I believed it too. I remember hearing once that a person when they encounter a bear should not be surprised when the wild bear acts like a beast rather than Yogi & Boo Boo. Unless God removes the veil, the bear will keep acting will follow it's instincts and keep acting like a wild bear Enoch |

Enoch, I don't know about wild bears, but I'm glad to see you, you big ol' Teddy bear. Been having you on my heart and prayers. River |

SeekingLight, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is a response to Dale and the rest of the Tour of Encouragement. Sound the alarm!!!! The Apostates are coming, the Apostates are coming!!!! There is also a storm a'brewing over Naturalistic Evolution being taught at La Sierra. So, I believe, in response to that, is where the idea for "Creation Sabbath" came from. This is on October 24th I think. Now maybe this was in the works for a while, but I kinda doubt it. |

Creation Sabbath? What about "Creation Tuesday"--it was created, too! As far as the 'odor' discussion above, I definitely smell Bandini. |

Oh, thank you Bb for the link to that beautiful song...I've already sent it on to two people. When I see the happiness & extreme joy that Christians have for Christ's completed sacrifice and know that all of us who have accepted it are rejoicing along with them...it just blows me away. There is NO comparison to what I came out of. PTL!!! |

So many things about the adventists beliefs have appeared to change. The FB's were not there when I was a child. Since they have been added they have not changed and one has been added in 2005. No matter what SDAs say they believe, and even if it sounds evangelical, the 28 FBs are still there. That tells me that nothing has changed. I am just so thankful to our awesome God that He has me now and He will never let go of me. thank you, thank you, thank you. Diana L ps Thanks for the link to that song. I never knew the tragic circumstances of the writer. (Message edited by Flyinglady on September 29, 2009) |

Diana, that's why I can never really sing it without crying.. after I heard that story, and it was moving even before that. I also consistently go back to the 28 Fundamentals as evidence.. even when my own family says I'm confused because I'm thinking about the way the church USED to be.. but it's changed now. uh huh.. right. =) |

Just another thought ... Dwight Nelson is preaching heresy in a slick and dishonoring way of God ... even still we are called to pray for our enemies ... Maybe we, too, could pray that this influential SDA preacher would find the true gospel and would be stopped in his tracks by the Lion of Judah and the Lamb of God. When a person like Paul can be transformed by God ... so can anyone. |

I can listen this choir sing this song every day and not get tired of it! It gives me chills! I was thinking about how happy in Jesus these sweet souls are, and if I were still adventist these are some of the things that would go through my head... 1. They seem so sincere. 2. They are wearing jewelry. 3. If they are sincere, they will have to learn about the Sabbath, I wonder if they will accept it and be saved, or will they be lost? 4. Somebody should send them a Great Controversary 5. They don't realize that they are in error. Isn't that a disgusting train of thought?! Praise God I can now join them in their song and have the peace that they obviously share! |

Very good summary!!!! That is exactly how it goes. It's so glorious to be free and love Jesus without reservation and rejoice with others who do to... soo so sooo awesome. p.s. And yes.. praying for sda pastors espc. like Dwgiht.. reading Galatians.. you can't desire for anyone to be found preaching a different gospel. I fear for them. |

Sondra, Yes, I fear for him and the others who continue to preach a different gospel. I know that if they fully accepted the completed atonement and understood the total depravity we are born with (spiritually dead) - these pastors couldn't help but "sing a different tune". I know when I was told what Dwight had said from the pulpit - about how we still sin and if sin was taken care of at the cross then we would have ceased to sin (my paraphrase) - I was extremely angry. They aren't just preaching a different gospel ... they are preaching an "evil" bondage-producing gospel. It totally negates the Son of God and the gift of grace ... If these SDA preachers don't turn and repent ... I, too, fear for them. |

Only God can lift that veil off them. So that is what I pray for, for all SDAs. I see more and more every day how evil adventism is. The longer I am out the more I see it. I, too fear for SDA preachers. Some of them are aware of all that is wrong with adventism and stay for their various reasons. They cannot see that Jesus is all they need and He will take care of them. Diana L |
