Does anyone out there know if Maria Hirschmann (SDA author in the 70's & a wonderful person who wrote about her experiences under the Nazis) is a former adventist? I heard this rumor many years ago when still in the church & couldn't understand how she could leave, Now I do. She used to live around PUC & wrote "I Changed Gods" and several other books (Hansi). I have always wondered what happened to her. I'd be delighted if she has left! |

Her website. Her statement of faith says in part, "We believe that the Bible is the Word of God. It is the only written revelation of God to men." That last part would disqualify her from being an Adventist |

How interesting! I agree--the statement of faith doesn't sound Adventist on several counts. Neither does her use of the phrase "the Lord Jesus". Adventists don't usually call Him "the Lord Jesus". To be sure, the pearls are a bit obvious and non-traditional SDA. In her other picture she is wearing a cross pendant. This also points toward "non-Adventist". How wonderful for God to have rescued her. Colleen |

I loved that book; it was beyond inspiring. She's an amazing woman! I didn't know she was ever an SDA. Someone should ask her if she has an "exit story" she wouldn't mind sharing. |

I also loved that book and read it many, many times growing up. I was trying to recall the story, and I don't think it ever came up in the book what her church affiliation was. One would just assume since Pacific Press published it, that she would be SDA. On her current website, she has her current autobiography available. An Amazon review of that current book says it replaced "I Changed Gods" and is a much more complete story. It would be interesting to compare the two books. |

According to an advertisement for her book in the following 1969 Review, she was an SDA: http://www.rh.maranathamedia.com/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&task=download&id=8175%3A1969-45+Nov-6.pdf&Itemid=54 (page 22)
quote:I CHANGED GODS by Maria Hirschmann From a Hitler Youth leader to dedicated Adventist, after a harrowing flight from a prison labor camp.

I enjoyed the book as a young person too. It looks like the complete statement of faith on her website has a "flavor" of Adventist lingo - though it is not outright. Just a thought ... |

Yes, I will. It may take a little while to hear from her as she is in Europe right now. I ordered what I think is her latest book. I noticed in her newsletter that she talks about the rapture & how hard she has studied it & that she believes it is truth. No, I don't think she is any longer SDA. Maybe I'll call up the ABC & ask them if they still sell any of her books. That would be interesting! |

I believe that the rapture is truth but I hope she doesnt mean the rapture that dispensationalists are pedaling. If she does i would say this woman is bein blown about by every wind of doctrine. This teaching started in the 1800's.....same time as Adventism..Hmmm. I reccomend the new Dvd video out by the Apologetics group called "The Late Great Planet Church" |
