I ate some nutritional yeast on my salad for lunch today and now I've had stomach cramps all day and all evening. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Maybe it was something else and not the yeast. Just wondering. (Message edited by honestwitness on August 30, 2009) |

I ate an aged cheddar bacon cheeseburger last night and have had no problems at all. The lesson: Eat more cheeseburgers and less nutritional yeast. |

Nutritional yeast is full of B vitamins... never liked it myself but the kids used to like the flake kind on popcorn.. maybe you just had too large of a dose... or maybe it was old and had some mold in it ? Hope your tummy feels better. |

Honestwitness, perhaps you are allergic to it. I've eaten it all the time with no problems at all. I'm so sorry for the pain--hope it's subsided now... |

I feel better this morning. Thanks for the humor, bskillet! And thanks for the other helpful replies. I'll try it again and make sure I'm not including any of the other foods I had yesterday. That way, I should be able to tell if it was the yeast or something else. |

Although I now grind my own flour and bake bread about twice a week and have been doing so, off and on, for some thirty-five years, I had never heard of 'nutritional yeast'. So, I did a little Goggle research…very interesting stuff. It seems it is high in most of the B complex vitamins and is considered a "complete protein". So, it is something vegans eat to replace what they are not getting from real meat. Alas, we were never vegetarian when I was growing up so I guess I never really needed to be eating the stuff. I do remember eating a 16oz. can of Nuteena and getting deathly sick. At another time, I became anemic and had to eat foods high in iron. Now days, I am willing to eat most anything but, please, don't serve me liver. Mother then switched to Jell-O but found out it might contain pig in it, so she switched to Knox gelatin…yuck. Somehow, I did learn to love spinach but want lots of mayo on it. Oh yes, wine is a good source of iron, but alas, we were 'good adventist' even if dad was hater of all things related to SDAism, so out came the Welch's. He always brought out the apricot brandy when we had colds. Unfortunately, I never got many colds and I still don't but the brandy is ready just in case. We use brandy too But with the exception of black berry brandy. 1 Tbsp in a cup of sierra mist/7 up will completely stop vomiting and break a fever. Rarely use is...but it's also always on hand |

best thing I have ever used to stop vomiting and settle a queezy tummy is good old fashioned Coca Cola syrup... (coke that has gone flat works too) just pour some on crushed ice and take a spoonfull at a time letting the ice melt before swallowing. |
