Are you a little schizy today, Colleen? Or was that a "bump" in the road. Just teasing . The thread started out with the Sabbath rules - and I agree I never could figure it out ... but I somehow thought I had "figured" most of it out (ha!) I believe it is the "schizy" rules that is what divides Adventists the most. And keeps them walking on egg shells - they don't always know what another's "rules" are. So we judged people by Sabbath keeping ... In regards to the Spirit ... Are there not times when the Spirit is felt more powerfully or manifests Itself in a more palpable way .... I know there are times when I "sense" the Spirit in ways I don't on a day to day basis. Does that make sense? Keri |

Thanks for explaining that, I guess in other words they can't keep all them Schizy (got me usin' them two dollar words)rules so they are waiting for the Holy Spirit to come riding in on a white horse and take away the burden. The problem is, is that he done rode in and when he rides out it will even be worse, I can't bear to think of the millions who died waiting. How many offspring has there been since 1844? One in particular of my Adventist friends asks the Holy Spirit to help us each day whenever it comes time for closing in prayer. I don't know how much he is really aware of the Holy Spirit or if its just words they have grown used to repeating? Not my place to judge that anyhow, thank God, I got enough on my plate. I have been praying for him for years, but when he gets to reading EGW he changes like a multi role actor. You can't help but wonder though. Makes sense to me Keri, if I don't feel his presence pretty often I get grumpy and that ain't know joke. I begin griping after so long a time. Kinda like my wife does me if I don't pay her no attention for awhile, she'll sit and pout. River |

This is kinda along the "Sabbath keeping tricks" line..I remember always feeling like there was levels of holiness in the congregation. It went sorta like this...Ok, they wear long dresses, suspenders, won't drink milk..they are holier than those over there because we were at their house and I know they drink milk..Now as far as those over there go..they let their kids go to ballgames on Friday night, we aren't THAT bad, so, we must fit in somewhere below the milk drinkers but still above the ball game attenders, we eat clean meat but that doesn't even come close to being as bad as Friday night fun..and on and on.. |

The "apotelesmatic principle". Isn't that what the SDA calls it? Meaning that a prophecy may have more than one fulfillment. So if Joel's was fulfilled at Pentecost, they say, based on that principle, that it still has another fulfillment coming at the end of time. Ant that's what they call the latter rain. Hec |

I remember many times we were told that we should ask God to give us the Holy Spirit every day... Then we would be able to do many amazing things! Therefore, it seems that for them it was something that would simply come and go... How sad not to realise that once the Holy Spirit comes, He's come to stay! It's God Himself living in us!!! How amazing is that? It isn't just something of lower importance, like some sort of pills that would give us extra energy for a while. |

Yeah Martin, That seems to be the sense I get from his prayer, like there is some outside help and would he please come along and throw us a bone today? But here is what the scriptures say. John 14:17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:18 "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. John 14:19 "A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. John 14:20 "At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He came to us at Pentecost, well, not me... I ain't THAT old, But he has faithfully come to me in my time just as he promised. And by his Spirit I know that he has kept his promise and by his Holy presence I know he will not forsake us, as he promised. Its not a promise I wait for, hope for, that promise had been fulfilled. There was another thread where I asked if it was normal for a person to sense the Holy Spirit strongly from time to time and at other times to not sense Him very much at all. Several others responded and assured me that that was normal. I don't know how to make a link to that thread. I think it was in the Members Only section. One thing for sure, I NEVER SENSED the Holy Spirit when I was an Adventist! I didn't even know that was possible. Also I would be somewhat jealous when I would read a story where someone was walking closely with the Lord like Dwight L. Moody and the Lord would do wonderful things in answer to his prayers. I would wonder how he could be sure that the Lord would do a certain thing when he would pray; and he was wasn't even an Adventist!!! Adventist preachers would come and give sermons on such things as "the ABCs of Bible prayer," etc. and I listened to an Adventist preacher lecture on the Holy Spirit at campmeeting once. That preacher seemed to know very little about Him. Anyway, it's sad but typical that an Adventist hardly know anything about the Holy Spirit. They don't know that the Holy Spirit is the Seal and the guarantee of a person's salvation - Ephesians 1:13,14. For them, the Sabbath is the "seal." That's certainly the mark of a false religion; putting something - a day - in the place of God. |

Sabbatarian kills Doctor Most of you have heard the news reports about the murder of Dr. George Tiller (late term abortionist) from Wichita, Kansas while handing out bulletins in his church. Interestingly, Scott Roeder (the assailant/murderer) is a staunch Sabbatarian--although not a Seventh-day Adventist. He has reportedly worked at convenience stores near Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Kansas City at various times. Mr. Roeder is supposedly a very religious person. Apparently, his brain got clinically-fixated on various religious hot topics without relief. Dennis Fischer |

Well Dennis, I'm sure he's getting some relief now. He's probably clinically fixated on how he will endure life doing slow time. River |

Obviously God recognizes an unborn baby as being a human being, otherwise Elizabeth's unborn baby, John the Baptist, wouldn't have leaped in her womb (Luke 1:41). Also He recognized Jeremiah as being human as He formed him in the womb (Jeremiah 1:5). Of course since the Adventist church's position toward abortion is neutral; (in fact they do abortions in their hospitals) if Scott Roeder was an Adventist, he'd have probably greeted the abortion doctor with a smile. (And of course what Scott Roeder did to the doctor was just as bad morally as what the doctor did each time he did an abortion.) Hmmm... I wonder what church the abortion doctor went to... |

I heard on the news yesterday that the drs family is not reopening his clinic, praise the Lord. I also heard his ex-partner making excuses (he also preforms late term abortions)for him. Then he went on to discribe how it is done and it made me sick to my stomach so you can imagine how God feels when this happens. This guy goes to church and doesn't know the bible strictly teaches against murder? I wonder what bible he was reading. Gail |

Hi! Responding to the initial question about all the hundreds of SDA rules. We just spent two weeks with SDA relatives in Montana--went to five different academy graduation programs during the weekend. After having fellowship with formers for about 1 1/2 years, this experience was kind of crazy-making & such a contrast. The programs were not at all Christ-centered, barely a few mentions of God near the end of the Friday night program, the mention of "the hope (not the assurance) of salvation" once in church. I had decided beforehand to wear my "scripture necklace" during the trip-a little bit anxious as I knew how they would perceive it (knew how I would have judged someone in the past!). While I was worrying a bit about that, one of the men in the group proudly shared with me how he & his wife had been taking square dancing lessons each week! He's a head elder in his small Arizona SDA church! Huh? Why was I worrying about offending them, while they can dance?? No TV turned on during Sabbath, yet badminton games & horseshoes were played after lunch. As opposed to what I have been used to with formers, NO discussions of Biblical things, Christ, searching our Bibles, etc. I felt out of place at church because we were the only ones in our group that brought Bibles with us. It was just the weirdest experience! Oh, there was one mention of religion during lunch, where the same "dancing" head elder said, "Well, have you seen all those new cults on the internet (L.A.M., F.A.F. etc)? They have all gotten off track because I think they just haven't been walking close to the Lord!" So glad I have left this!!!!!!!!!!! Hope this doesn't come off sounding judgemental--it was just so clear to me how each family has their own Sabbath/life rules & if yours are different from theirs, they will judge you for doing wrong, but they are OK! |

Nowise, Welcome, good to meet you. Sounds like you are both a full flegged former and a Christ centered lover of His word. I don't think I've ever heard of LAM and FAF refered to as "cults" before. By that, I guess the guy's definition would be anything not SDA. Kind of upside down thinking. Fearless Phil |

Nowisee, Welcome to FAF. You are in a good place here. I have a brother that lives in Helena, Montana. He attends the Messianic Jewish church. I love Montana. It is strange associating with SDAs. They do not talk about God. On the airplane home yesterday, my seat mate remembered me from another trip from Little Rock to Las Vegas. She is a Christian and we talked freely about God and what He does for us. So different then the SDAs. We do have an awesome God. Diana L |

Welcome Nowisee, I like your post. I am sure this experience opened your eyes to things you did not realize when you were seeped in sda. That tickles my funny-bone about the head elder taking square dancing lessions. Who knows maybe this is Gods' way of leading him out of sda. He mentions Lam and FAF as being cults, haha, little does he know, he should come visit. Gail |

Nowisee, I love it when new people start posting. Welcome! Isn't it amazing how clear it becomes when you go back, that you did the right thing? When we were first studying our way out, I was a bit afraid to read the books SDA's gave me, or to attend their programs, lest I be sucked back in. But it was SO obvious to me, and such a relief. When that veil has been lifted, it's just amazing how clear everything becomes, and nothing will ever be the same again. ~Diana C. |

Welcome, Nowisee. Praise God; He lifts the veil! And the hundreds of SDA rules, too! I loved the observations noted in your post. I am curious: what scripture is on your necklace? Again, welcome. |

Welcome, Nowisee! I'm so happy to see you here! Cults, huh? Wow--those kinds of statements just don't make sense... I totally understand your experience on your trip. It's hard to sit through all that... (I love your screen name, BTW!) Colleen |
