Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Well…I’d say knowledge has increased, not sure what day in the future this is talking about in Daniel, but it sure describes today to a ‘T’. Running to and fro seems like all I do, meeting a solid wall of traffic of others doing the same thing, running to and fro. We went from horses and buggy’s to the moon in 69 years and in less than 20 years further we have the internet where just about any information you would want to know is recorded if you know how to find it. Words like ‘Data mining’ takes the place of mineral mining. Sounds like Daniels time of the end to me and the Holy Spirit hasn’t set about denying my thoughts on that either. Never a day goes by, but which we encounter a rush of things coming at us, cell phone calls, land line calls, advertisements, world news, computers rule the office. We have so much incoming information that by the end of the day our minds are full to overflowing with information. If I promise to do something for someone and I don’t write it down I soon forget because of the new incoming demands and knowledge placed on my mind. But how much of this incoming data do I need? I was riding down through town with my wife recently and I remarked about some store being new, she says, you don’t pay much attention do you? That store has been there over a year. Now this was not in a big town, this was a small town. Thinking takes time and time is a precious commodity, but here is what the Bible says: Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. How do we keep our minds stayed on God with all the incoming information? I have learned to reject thought and information that I have no need of. I told my wife that I knew where every store was that I needed to know about. I don’t need to know about a store that sells shoes when I have a pair on. My wife say I have selective hearing, but I really don’t, I have selective rejection. It is getting harder to evangelize when peoples minds are busy on video, games, music, cars, houses, the internet, cell phones, highways, everything but their soul, I think 90% of the time they are not even aware that they have one. They don’t have selective rejection, constantly taking in information that has no bearing on their life, the latest movie, surfing the internet, dating, work, and the work of dating. We need to learn how and to practice rejection of a wall of information that comes at us if we are to have our minds staid on the Lord, its not an option, it is an imperative. During auto class years and years ago, someone asked the instructor what the dwell and timing was on a 56 Chevy with a 327 engine. The instructor yelled at the student for asking the question. He said “look it up! Why do you need that kind of information when it is in the manual and you can go look it up?” Think about it, so many useless bits of information floating around in out minds that we have no use for at the time and maybe never will. If you have a problem, solve it and then move on, after the problem is solved it no longer pertains to you. We need to learn to reject thoughts that doesn’t have a bearing on what we are about, but there is not minute that we don’t need to keep our minds staid on Jesus. As someone recently made a post and said “Oh Jesus.” That was the sum total of his post. Who knows what he meant, but that’s about right, Oh Jesus, not Oh Elvis, or not Oh Obama. I reject Obama, I reject Chevrolet, I reject, I reject a whole lot of stuff and return my mind back to God, but there’s times I catch myself thinking about some silly something that is not profitable to me at all, absolutely no value whatsoever to me or anyone else. I am afraid we are in that time as spoken of by Daniel, a time when minds are so busy that they will remain busy right up until the time God shoves them to the left of him and says I never knew you. River, Amen! The toys have really become the devils playground. Peoples minds have become sooooo cluttered with stuff that there is no time to sit and meditate on God and all the good things He has given us. At night I just sit outside and look up at the stars and ponder on everything God in His great love has given us. I have noticed the young people have been losing more and more people skills and have not learned to tell the difference between what is important information to keep and what to reject. They have also learned how not to think and make decisions for themselves because all the information is there at the touch of a button. Gail | ||
