“The gospel of Jesus Christ is the plan of salvation. It embraces all of the laws, principals, doctrines, rites, ordinances, acts, powers, authorities, and keys necessary to save and exalt men in the highest heaven hereafter. It is the covenant of salvation which the Lord makes with men on earth.”

Any guesses?

I got it from an article that is discussing 'adding' to the definition of the gospel.

I googled it also as I did not know. I will prolong the secret and let someone else find the answer.

OK... I cheated too! But I should have guessed from the "highest heaven" where this came from.

Guess who wrote the following?

quote:

"...Which is to show unto the remnant of the House of Israel what great things the Lord hath done for their fathers; and that they may know the covenants of the Lord, that they are not cast off forever--And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations--"

I find it very interesting that even an anti-Trinitarian false prophet, such as Joseph Smith (who wrote the above quote in the Title Page of The Book of Mormon), can write things such as that "Jesus is...the Eternal God."

(By the way, I don't believe that EGW even ever wrote that Jesus "is the eternal God." In fact, she directly contrasted Jesus with "the eternal God" on more than one occasion.)

Also, on a similar topic, I noticed recently that the Jehovah's Witnesses' New World Translation is finally available online: http://www.watchtower.org/bible/toc.htm

And just looking through some of it, I confirmed what I had suspected--that it is much less corrupted than The Clear Word (which corrupts almost every part of the Bible).

And yet who gets more criticism from Christian apologists for their corrupted "bible"? The JWs or the SDAs?

I just find it interesting.

Jeremy, I hadn't been able to confirm that suspicion before, but I've also had that same one: the Clear Word is more corrupt than the New World Translation. Thank you.

God is, I believe, bringing the truth increasingly to light, and I just thank Him and continue to pray that He will expose and break the spirit of Adventism.

It is so true about the New World Translation vs the Clear Word.

The NWT has some additions such as adding "a god" (referring to Jesus) to John 1:1 and the word "other" to Colossions 1:16 to make Jesus appaear to be a creation rather than divine God

NWT: "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16 because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him"

As much as they tried to corrupt the Bible they missed a whole bunch of places. When I meet with JWs or any non trinitarian I go to Revelation 21:6 (in whatever version they use)which shows God to be the Alpha and Omega and then to Revelation 1:8 that declares God to be the Alpha and Omega/First and the last and then go to Rev 1:18 that declares "I AM he that was alive and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. This can only apply to Jesus and speaks of His divinity as well as His death, burial, resurrection and victory over death & the power of hell

The problem with the Clear Word Bible is that the author systematically adn deliberatly went to every possible place in the Bible and inserted SDA theology not only by changing the words but by inserting whole phrases and quotes from EGW--even the JWs did not go that far.

In terms of the quote above. a little hint, whenever you see the word "exalted" it might be mormon. They have a whole theology that is based around man being exalted to the level of God.

Guess who wrote the following?

quote:

"And there was joy in Heaven that the sons of Adam could, through a life of obedience, be finally exalted to the throne of God."

Jeremy, that would be none other than Ellen G. White. This woman clearly did not know the Gospel.

Ding! You win! :-)

"...through a life of obedience, be finally exalted to the throne of God." (Ellen G.
White, The Signs of the Times, 02-15-1883, "The Love of Christ," paragraph 7.)

It sounds identical to Mormonism.

I have read a report copied from the newspaper accounts of the Mormon's burning of the Nauvoo printing press after the paper (the Nauvoo Expositor) printed an unfavorable account of the Mormons in the early 1840's. Those 16 Mormon men were tried, and the trial resulted in Joseph Smith's being interred where he was murdered in 1844.

The 16 men were named in the report—interestingly, two of them had the last name of "Harmon". Ellen's mother, as a matter or record, died in Nauvoo. Moreover, Ellen's first cousin Agnes was married first to Joseph Smith's brother and later was married in a polygamous marriage to Joseph himself. After Joseph's death, Agnes served prominently in the services of the Nauvoo Mormon temple when it opened.

This information about Agnes was recorded by Roger Coon, director of the White Estate, in the Adventist Review in 1999.

Without doubt, there are startling similarities between Ellen's statements and Mormonism...Very telling quote, Jeremy.

Colleen, That, without a doubt, is the scariest thing I have read in a while.

Did dear Ellen have many negative things to say about the Mormons or did she give them a pass because her relatives were involved and also because her writings were similar? Inquiring minds want to know.

I wasn't aware that she had relatives in the Mormon movement. I know she had the BofM in her library and copied from it..Granted both movements started in New england and affected many many people. Hmmm. I may have to do some more historical digging

Perhaps this is why EGW tritheism ("the Three Worthies" and "The Heavently Trio") is identical to the Mormon tritheism, and why she taught Jesus and Satan were both archangels.

Thanks Colleen. I was not aware of the Mormon connection with EGW either.
As for their similar beliefs, they came from the same place and it was not God.
