What are your "favorite" Ellen White prophecies and sayings?

Here's one I'm emailing about, to a relative:
quote:
I'm sure you're looking forward to Jesus bringing the New Jerusalem down from Heaven to the earth, but what about what Ellen White wrote about the Old Jerusalem? In the book "Early Writings" in the fourth paragraph of the short chapter called "The Gathering Time," Ellen White wrote that it wouldn't do much good to try to evangelize the Jewish people. She said that "Old Jerusalem never would be built up." Look what's happened in the Middle East. The Lord has brought back the Jews from all over the world and put them back in their land again as He prophesied in the Bible - see Ezekiel 37:21. JERUSALEM HAS BEEN BUILT UP AGAIN!!!!!!! (Also see the next two chapters, Ezekiel 38 and 39 to see what happens to Israel just before the Lord comes back. IT'S ALREADY STARTING TO HAPPEN. WATCH THE NEWS!!! RUSSIA (Magog) IS HELPING IRAN (Persia). BOTH, ALONG WITH A LOT OF OTHER COUNTRIES ARE PROPHESIED TO ATTACK ISRAEL!!! The Lord WILL defend Israel though. See those chapters and Zechariah 12-14. It looks as though Jerusalem will be captured, THEN the Lord will attack the attackers. What happens to the attackers reads like a horror movie.

Here's another place where Ellen White almost quoted the Bible, but twisted it:
First notice Hebrews 9:25 where it compares Jesus' sacrifice for our sins to the annual Day of Atonement.
"not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another"
Now notice how Ellen White twists it in "Spiritual Gifts" vol. 1; in the chapter called "The Sanctuary" in the last paragraph. (It's the second half of the book that I have, of "Early Writings")
quote: "As the priest entered the most holy once a year to cleanse the earthly sanctuary, so Jesus entered the most holy of the heavenly, at the end of the 2300 days of Daniel 8, in 1844, to make a final atonement for all who could be benefited by His mediation, and thus to cleanse the sanctuary."

Wow! Ellen White sure struck out on those!!! How about how she didn't manage to see the current threat of Islam??!!!

Who else has a "favorite" or two??

Well, I'm right now editing an amazing article by our own MartinC (Martin Carey) for Proclamation about the Adventist "legend" of Orion. In 1846 Ellen related her vision of Jesus' coming:

"Dark, heavy clouds came up and clashed against each other. The atmosphere parted and rolled back; then we could look up through the open space in Orion, whence came the voice of God. The Holy City will come down through that open space."

Amazingly enough, science has proven beyond ANY doubt that there is no opening in Orion. Yet Ellen's statement has immortalized the Adventist myth of Jesus' returning through that supposed gateway in the sky.

You'll love Martin's article in the next issue...it's amazing how much power that woman's false prophecies still have...

I'm wondering how Ellen came to think there was an open space in Orion.... oh ya.... she was shown!

Apparently a William Herschel observed something in orion first in 1784 but it is really something called a 'black absorption nebula'. Every one of her stunning finds that I've looked into so far have been found and written up before she was 'shown'.

Seems there is somewhat of a new age following of the one in orion as well - from one of the google links that I found.....

PS sorry for the hijack... wasn't thinkin'

Another thing that's interesting is how two "prophets" were shown to be false in the 1940s. Israel became a nation again in 1948, thereby proving Ellen White to be false; and the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered between 1947 and 1956; thereby proving Joseph Smith to be false. (He said that the Bible is only true "in so far as it's been translated correctly." The Dead Sea Scrolls proved that the Bible had indeed been translated correctly - I think the scrolls are of the Old Testament. God says in Isaiah that He's the ONLY GOD, but Joseph Smith says that people become gods if they're good enough.)

It's also curious how Ellen White started having visions not long after Joseph Smith died. It's as if the "mantel" passed from the first "prophet" to the second, except that Joseph Smith's religion was obviously made up by a man who liked plenty of wives. Ellen's was nearly the opposite, if I'm remembering correctly!

It makes me sad to see all the people caught in religions like those. Most of my relatives are SDA, but I have some Mormon ones too.

It truly is a miracle when a person "sees" the gospel and is set free. And God can open those blind eyes!

Also, Joseph Smith was murdered in the Nauvoo jail in—when else? 1844!

Exactly!!! (Actually, I think I learned of the interesting coincidence of the times of Joseph Smith's death and Ellen White's visions from someone else here who wrote on the forum; so that information didn't originate with me. It was certainly worth repeating though!) :-)

Bizarre!!! I think that's more than a coincidence.

I remember always being told when I was little that Jesus was coming back through Orion. I used to always look for it if I was outside at night - trying to imagine it. The power of belief - it's amazing.

Was thinking about the vegan nutrition issue and wishing I could discuss it with a friend of mine that has very small children. But I realized.. I can't just sit down with research and common sense because it's not about science. It's about belief. By doing so, I would be seen as an enemy of the prophet and nothing else. If she said it... it has to be true..

The prophecy about Old Jerusalem never being built up again is pretty blatant, isn't it? The worst part of it, however, is that she said it wouldn't do any good to evangelize Jewish people. That's in tandem with her "Shut door" pronouncements about not praying for the wicked world which God had rejected or whatever (etc.).

There is an interesting underlying assumption in her statement, though, which is something she shares with dispensationalists. Both EGW and dispensationalists assume that to a great degree, in order for Jews to be evangelized, it is necessary that they have and are in the physical land of Israel. This is contrary to the Bible, however, which proclaims that Israel was still "Israel" even when she was in Egypt or in exile. A nation's identity is not founded on physical borders. That is a modern notion, not a biblical one.
