One example of Mrs. White's misguided health teachings, in 1864, she had a "vision" regarding strychnine: "A branch was presented before me bearing large flat seeds. Upon it was written, Nux vomica, strychnine. Beneath was written, No antidote." (On page 138 of Spiritual Gifts, Vol. 4) Even prior to this "vision," English scientists had discovered charcoal to be an effective antidote. In England, by 1855 powdered animal charcoal suspended in sugared water was being used in London to treat poisoning with strychnine and other alkaloids. Is that why she became such an advocate for charcoal? My mother wants to take charcoal for EVERYTHING because Dr. Agatha Thrash believes in it and quotes Ellen on it. Maybe she found out later that she was wrong about her vision! | ||

Dr. Thrash? My mom was always quoting her. Growing up with many of Ellen's diet counsels, we often had need of charcoal to calm the raging methane storms in our lower GI tracts. Charcoal is a good antidote for gas pains. After abandoning the "translation diet," the storms subsided. | ||
